OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC GT22-1000i (6C1R9AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

So I've had this 45L with a 4070ti for roughly 4 months and it's been great. No issues at all. Runs amazing under load and performance has been beyond my expectations.

However recently every single time I power it back on I'm required to input my bitlocker key and then reset my login pin for Windows. It tells me this is due to recent security changes that were made.

As far as I know I've not changed any settings. I do have a bios update but I've done some research on it and I've read accounts of this specific HP update bricking other people's omens. I updated bios originally when I purchased this computer but when this recent one came I didn't update it. It was running fine until about 3 days ago and this bios update had been available for months.

I thought about disabling bitlocker and installing the BIOS update as I read it you don't do that it could cause issues.

When I was looking up info on this problem people with the same issues tried to disable bitlocker to get around it caused some serious issues.

I'm not sure what I should do here as because right now the computer runs great as long as I enter my bitlocker key and change my pin upon booting up. I don't want to brick my system with the new bios update.

Any advice would be extremely helpful, thank you kindly.

Hi @Hidden_Hand

Welcome back.

I am not advising what you should do. This is a decision you must make.

I can tell you I have been using Windows Pro editions since Windows NT circa 1998.

I have never used BitLocker on Desktop PCs. The BitLocker recovery key is now stored in the TPM. Something is amiss if you have to input this key every time you want to run Windows.

If the key fails at some point (corrupted TPM) you will be locked out of the system drive and will lose access to data. I have seen this scenario in this Forum many times. The Forum Mods lock the thread because the user has a BitLocker recovery problem.

I also routinely create system images on external media for quick recovery purposes should something go wrong. You might want to consider doing this before you make any changes to the system.

I have been using Aomei Backupper free with very good results. Aomei provides detailed instruction at this Site.

Regards
