I'm staying at a military base in Groton Connecticut. In recency my computer (Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 16-r0xxx) has failed to stay connected to the Internet despite the fact that I have full bars. Anytime I reset I get temporary Internet access. The issue is something within my computer as yesterday I was connected to GoWifi through Viasat. I switched yesterday to Xfinity and it was temporarily fixed but today my computer is doing the same thing it was doing with GoWifi. I need to connect to some military websites but haven't been able to due to these restrictions. I've spend the last 4 hours running diagnostics with the help of ChatGPT. Nothing has worked and my Internet is still not working.

Hi @Soapytitan,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your Victus by HP Gaming Laptop (16-r0xxx) is showing full Wi-Fi bars but keeps losing Internet connection, only working temporarily after a restart. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

a. Forget and Reconnect to Wi-Fi

Click on the network icon → select your Wi-Fi (Xfinity) → choose Forget.

Restart your laptop and reconnect by entering the password again.

This clears out any stored IP or configuration conflicts.

b. Reset Network Settings

In the Windows search bar, type Network Reset and open it.

Click Reset Now, then restart the laptop when prompted.

This reinstalls network adapters and resets all settings to default.

c. Update or Reinstall Network Drivers

Press Windows + X → Device Manager → Network Adapters.

Right-click your wireless adapter and choose Update driver → Search automatically.

If it’s already up to date, select Uninstall device, restart your laptop, and Windows will reinstall it automatically.

d. Disable Power Saving for Wi-Fi Adapter

In Device Manager, right-click your Wi-Fi adapter → Properties → Power Management tab.

Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

Apply changes and restart.

e. Flush DNS and Renew IP

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run these commands one by one:

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

netsh winsock reset

Restart your laptop after running these commands.

f. Change DNS Settings

Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Wi-Fi → Hardware properties → Edit DNS settings.

Set to Manual, turn on IPv4, and enter:

Preferred DNS: 8.8.8.8

Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4

Save and reconnect to your Wi-Fi.

I hope this helps.
