My system will not boot from any USB device. The motherboard Bios is the latest, I have turned off protection in Bios (per other posts on this forum) and all drivers are up to date.
The USB devices I have tried are a Samsung 128Gb thumb drive, A Samsung M2 980 pro, and a crucial both 1Tb mounted in different external M2 enclosures. The errors reported are:
-Preparing automatic repair
-Device ran into a problem and needs to restart
However, both M2's boot (Windows 11 pro) if fitted to the motherboard M2 slot with no issues.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Cheers.

I did not call HP help as this would have required a subscription as my warranty has expired.
However I did find a solution to my issue elsewhere. It requires a change to the registry of the boot system, which for me worked here's why: My M2 ssd would boot if connected to the motherboard m2 connector but not if used in an external usb m2 stick. I therefore applied the registry change to the ssd when it was connected to the motherboard and booted, then transferred to the m2 usb stick. This is the fix found:

"According to this thread, the USB 3.0 drivers aren't loaded at the stage of the boot process where Windows tries to access the boot partition.
To make Windows load the USB drivers sooner:
Press WinR, type regedit and hit Enter
Enter HKLM\SYSTEM\HardwareConfig\ in the address bar at the top
On the left, choose the entry with the UUID of the boot partition
Change BootDriverFlags's value to 14 (hexadecimal)"
