Hello, I successfully swapped out the HP motherboard in my 40L to an MSI B760-P. Everything almost works as it should, however I could not get any lighting control inside OGH, as it doesn't even show up. Right now, I'm using alternative lighting programs to control my lighting, which means the RGB board is definitely working.

Has anyone with a 45L or 40L that has a non-HP board ever figured out what to do to get it back on OGH? Thanks!

Welcome to the HP Forum.

Each MB manufacturer makes proprietary RGB software/firmware which only works with each manufacturer's RGB hardware.

Some exceptions would be open source RGB software such as Open RGB or Signal RGB which can talk to various MBs/RGB controllers.

I don't believe you can get OGH working on an MSI MB. And I don't believe MSI Command Center can talk to the Omen RGB controller you are now using with the MSI MB.

I also use Windows Dynamic Lighting on MBs that support this option to control some RGB lighting. This option does a pretty good job when Windows is running.

Thanks for the clarification,

That's a bit of a letdown, as in the Hardware Reference Guide section in the 40L GT21-0000i support page (pg 47-48) under the "upgrade options" section for using non-HP motherboards, it asks to connect the lighting board and use OGH. I assumed I could keep using the lighting board intact.

Greetings @dontas6i

I looked at pages: 47 and 48 in the Omen Hardware and Reference Guide.

The Hardware and Reference Guide does state you can use OGH on a non-HP MB.

But you have tried installing OGH using the MSI MB. From your problem description it sounds like OGH will not run on the MSI MB.

What happens when you try to install OGH on the MSI MB?

Retail RGB/Fan controller boards usually require a USB 2.0 connection to the MB to communicate with the RGB/Fan software, OGH in your situation.

And SATA power or PCIe power is required to power components connected to the controller board.

Hello,
Apologies for the messy wiring, I kept the cabling intact and connected the USB header from the lighting board to the system. As stated previously, the lighting turns on alongside the respective ARGB headers connected, however OGH refuses to recognizes it at all, despite programs such as openRGB being able to read it correctly. Thanks for the images.

So OGH is installed correctly using the MSI MB but you can't control the lighting. I am surprised HP has gone this route. I cannot mix and match various MB RGB software across different MB manufacturers.

I can't follow the cabling at the back of the MB.

But it does look like some of the RGB connections are not fully seated.

I can only suggest reseating all connectors, one at a time, to the controller board. Check the SATA power connection. And check the USB 2.0 to MB connection.

The RGB connection in between the controller card and the CPU socket looks like it is not fully seated. I can see the pins.

Hello,
I verified all the connectors work perfectly, and openRGB does work on here, but OGH just dosen't. I'm suprised that HP has gone this route as well, as the 45L, which was sold as a standalone ATX case at one point by them, is simply the 40L with the cryo chamber up top and some extra room for aio cooling routing, and that works perfectly fine with non-Hp motherboards, as shown in their support video here. (https://youtu.be/C2Ncjt4pov0?si=nv4rTadoehKgajEJ).

I suspect this is just a Omen Gaming Hub whitelisting issue for 40L lighting boards, where the software expects the lighting board to be paired up with a respective original motherboard, but not the 45L. I could be wrong.

I guess you'll have to use Open RGB if OGH can't talk to the RGB controller board when using the MSI MB.
