Microsoft Windows 11

Hello!  A few days ago my son's monitor was black but the PC was lit up and fans running.  I hooked the HDMI up to another monitor and had the same issue.  I used a DVI - HDMI cable and it worked, for 1 day.  Now the screen is back to being all black, does nothing when powering the PC on.  I though the GPU went bad so I purchased a new one, installed it, and still have the black screen so that tells me it's something else.  I've spent HOURS on this forum as well as several others, have tried everything I could read; hard reset, holding power button, unplugging, still holding power button, plugging back in and releasing power button.  Pressing Windows Key + B key while powering on.  Pulling out a stick of RAM and rebooting.  Pulling button battery out to reset CMOS.  Nothing has worked....please help!!!

Hi @Rile425,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're experiencing with your PC. It's frustrating when you've tried various troubleshooting steps without success. Let's explore a few more potential solutions.

Check Display Cables:

  • Ensure that the HDMI/DVI cables are securely connected to both the monitor and the GPU.
  • Try using different cables to rule out any potential issues with the cables themselves.

Monitor Input Source:

  • Make sure the monitor is set to the correct input source (HDMI/DVI) that corresponds to the cable connected to your PC.

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • If possible, try booting your PC into Safe Mode. This can help determine if the issue is related to drivers or software conflicts. You can usually access Safe Mode by repeatedly pressing the F8 key during the boot process.

Inspect the Power Supply:

  • Check the power supply unit (PSU) to make sure it is providing sufficient power to all components. If you have a spare PSU, you might consider testing with that.

Test with a Different Power Outlet:

  • Plug your PC into a different power outlet to rule out issues with the power source.

Inspect Motherboard and Components:

  • Check the motherboard for any visible damage or loose connections. Inspect other components like RAM, CPU, and power connectors.

BIOS Update:

  • If you can access the BIOS, consider updating it to the latest version. Check your motherboard HP website for instructions on updating the BIOS.

Test with Minimal Hardware:

  • Disconnect all unnecessary peripherals and non-essential hardware components. Boot with the bare minimum (CPU, one stick of RAM, GPU) to see if the issue persists.

Try Another Monitor:

  • Test your PC with a different monitor to eliminate the possibility of a faulty monitor.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
