OMEN 25L Desktop GT12-0000a (ID 9NA83AV)

Hello

I bought an Omen 25L some time ago which included a 500w power supply and in the desktop is RTX 3070.

I just now, about a year later realized that the GPU is required to have atleast a 650W power supply (preferably 750?).

What is the recommended action here, what kind of risk is there having too little power for the graphic card, is there any safety issues or does the GPU just not work at maximum capacity?

Hi

The 3070 can peak at 220 watts during intense use and has one eight pin PCIe connection in addition to power supplied by the PCIe X16 slot (150 watts plus 75 watts). You are okay there.

There is a chance HP is power throttling the graphics card and/or the CPU so the system is stable when stressing both components at the same time. HP offers a Ryzen 3900 as the top CPU for this system. The 3900 is limited to a 65 watt TDP. So the maximum power used by this component, I could not find actual peak burst power usage for this CPU), is also less than a 3900X.

Are you having any stability or performance issues when gaming?

It is not likely you can change CPU power settings as HP locks the BIOS.

Your options are to upgrade the PSU if you are out of warranty, not required if you are happy with performance and the PC is stable. Or continue using the PC as it is.
