I’m having a frustrating issue with my HP Omen desktop: the second RAM slot from the left works perfectly in BIOS — the stick is detected and RGB cycles normally — but after BIOS finishes booting into Windows, that slot becomes completely inaccessible; no software, including Windows, CPU-Z, or OMEN Gaming Hub, can detect or contact the RAM in that slot. This started suddenly, even before I deleted OMEN Gaming Hub. I’ve tried clearing CMOS, resetting BIOS, disabling XMP, swapping sticks, power cycling, and reinstalling/deleting OMEN Hub, but the problem persists. The RAM sticks themselves are fine in other slots. I need all four RAM sticks functional — is this a known hardware/motherboard issue, could a BIOS update fix it, or is the memory slot/channel likely damaged? I did add another 2x8 stick of identical Kingston fury years ago (I have 4x8gb now) never had issues till now.

Hi @Nathan52825,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If the second RAM slot in your OMEN 25L is not detected in Windows, but works fine in BIOS, there are several troubleshooting steps you can follow to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:

Check Physical Connection:

  • Make sure the RAM stick is properly seated in the slot. Sometimes, reseating it can help establish a better connection.

Test the RAM Stick:

  • Try using the RAM stick in another slot to check if the stick itself is functioning correctly.
  • If possible, swap it with another stick that is confirmed to be working to isolate whether the problem is with the RAM or the slot.

Check for BIOS Updates:

  • Ensure your BIOS is updated to the latest version as updates can fix compatibility issues with memory. You can download the latest BIOS from HP's support website.

Review BIOS Settings:

  • After ensuring the RAM is recognized in BIOS, make sure any memory-related settings, such as XMP profiles, are appropriately configured.

Re-enable OMEN Gaming Hub:

  • Reinstall OMEN Gaming Hub if you previously removed it. While uninstalling it should not affect hardware recognition, having the software might provide additional diagnostic or lighting control capabilities.

Check Windows Settings:

  • Make sure that memory remapping options are set correctly in Windows to allocate all the memory properly.

Run Diagnostics:

  • Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI to run a memory test and see if it recognizes any errors.

Operating System:

  • Ensure that your operating system is updated, which may resolve compatibility issues.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
