OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop PC GT15-2000i RCTO Base Model

This PC is almost one year old and over the past 3 weeks i have seen a significant slow down in performance. To the point that it is using up tons of memory and I have no idea why. I have checked to see what programs are running in the background and everything appears to be normal. I have run my virus application, thinking that maybe malware has crept into the system, but nothing pops up.

Its very frustrating. Here is my system info:

Hi @sjmack1957,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for sharing the detailed specs that help a lot! Your OMEN 25L is a powerful system, so a sudden slowdown with high memory usage suggests something deeper than just background apps. Let’s troubleshoot step by step:

Why This Happens

  • Memory leaks from apps or drivers.
  • Windows updates are introducing performance bugs.
  • Disk fragmentation or SSD health issues.
  • Thermal throttling (dust buildup or fan curve misconfiguration).
  • OMEN Gaming Hub settings (sometimes over-aggressive performance profiles cause instability).

Step 1: Check Resource Usage

Open Task Manager → Performance tab:

  • Is Memory usage near 90–100% even when idle?
  • If yes, check the Processes tab for apps consuming RAM.
  • If nothing obvious, it could be a driver or OS-level leak.

Step 2: Run HP Diagnostics

Step 3: Update Drivers & BIOS

Step 4: Check Storage Health

  • Open Command Prompt (Admin) → Run: chkdsk /f
  • Also, check SSD health using CrystalDiskInfo or HP Diagnostics.

Step 5: Disable Startup Bloat

  • Ctrl + Shift + Esc → Startup tab → Disable unnecessary apps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Windows for some odd reason pushed that nvidia driver which is a studio driver. That’s what happened to me without accepting anything. In case you’re gaming, install the latest game ready driver.
