Omen GT13-0935xt
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I recently received this Omen 30l:

https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/pdp/omen-30l-desktop-gt13-0395xt-bundle-pc

It came with 16GB ram, (2x8) and 4 slots total - 2 slots are available.

I want to add RAM but am coming across a ton of conflicting information, called HP support and they told me to take it to best buy and have it checked out, even though it has 4 RAM slots the motherboard may only be configured to accept 2? Doesn't make sense, why would their be 4 slots if you can only use 2?

Came across a lot of complaints about adding ram, and the motherboard only running the MHz that it is configured for. Mine is at 3200... also looked up official upgrade capabifilities and it either takes 8gb or 16gb sticks.

I am using for 3d rendering, not as concerned about upgrading the MHz, I am fine using the exact Hyper X RAM that it comes with.

My question is, am I ok to buy more compatible Hyper X ram and just add it? Without taking it to best buy to see if the motherboard allows for added ram slots? Only 2/4 slots are filled seems crazy that I would need to have a pro check on something like that.

This is what I am looking at (Hyper X 32GB (2x16) 3200MHz CL16 DDR DDIM

https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-3200MHz-Desktop-HX432C16FB3AK2-32/dp/B07WHF6X3X

Or do I have to buy the super expensive from HP Hyper X RAM that is specifically made to go with the motherboard?

Would like to just order more RAM knowing that it will work, not having to transport my desktop to best buy.

Any input would be appreciated - I cant be the only one confused by this lol.

Its specs

            https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06701354

It has 4 slots of RAM and supports 4 x 16GB = 64GB max. Its motherboard:

I know users have huge problem with other RAM. It much better to use HP RAM or SAME existing RAM (different capacity).

Thanks for the response!

What exactly do you mean when you say "same existing ram different capacity"?

Saying that buying matching Hyper X ram matching the same specs, just more ram is ok?

I am looking at getting the Hyper X 32gb (2x16) to add with all other specs matching, to be 48gb (2x8, 2x16) - will this work?

Still not very clear for me.

Simply means same brand, DDR Classification - The Type, Frequency, CAS Latency ... but larger capacity.

The only ram that would work out of the box is HP ram, the stock ram is HyperX Fury, but that is not the same one that you can buy aftermarket. The issue is that the ram is only with 3200mhz JEDEC profile, there is no XMP profile that can be enabled or disabled, unlike some other gaming orientated brands for competitors, HP has decided that XMP too much power to have in the hands of the gamers, so that is not included.

What are your options? Buying more memory directly from HP for the price of $158 per 8GB module!!! Or just scout eBay for other people that bought the Omen 30L just to get access to modern day GPUs without being scalped by the resellers, normally 2x8gb kits are running less than $100, personally I bought 3 or 4 kits a few months back to max out my two Omen 30L's.

What I've done myself back in a day: I looked it up, found out that module fitted is a specific SAMSUNG module (M378A1K43BB1) and ordered second, matching one.

So, what is(are) the RAM module(s) currently fitted?

Use CPU-Z - you can get it from here: https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html - and look it up in SPD tab.
