OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC GT22-0000a (4E978AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I want to upgrade from the standard 16 GB of memory that is included with this system. As long as the memory is 288 PIN DDR4 PC3600 or higher should have no loss of performance correct? is there a top end to the mHz speed to be used (has 3733 in it now)? And must I find a Ryzen ready module or would any DDR4 3600 or higher be acceptable? I appreciate any guidance provided. 🙂

@wakers1973,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Your OMEN By HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC GT22-0000a (4E978AV) according to: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/omen-by-hp-45l-gaming-desktop-pc-gt22-0000a/2100851548/document...,

can be fitted fitted with DDR4 PC4-29800, 3733 MHz XMP RAM when a 105 watt Vermeer CPU such as the Ryzen 9 5950X is installed, up to 4 x 32GB.

According to: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/54008830, Kingston HP37D4U1S8ME-16XR 4x16GB DDR4 3200 MHz RAM can be clocked to 3733 MHz is compatible as seen here fitted with an Intel Core i9-12900K.

According to: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/52768708, the same 3733 MHz RAM speed was achieved with Kingston HyperX DDR4 3733 C19 2x16GB KHX3733C19D4/16GX RAM, fitted with an Intel Core i9-12900KF.

Whatever RAM your purchase, please be reminded that it is recommended to get the same brand/model number rather than mixing different RAM.  HP (gaming) desktops are picky when it comes to what RAM is installed and what RAM speed can be attained.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

I had intended on replacing with the HyperX Fury 3733 mHZ sticks 4 X 16 GB and doing away with the 2 8GB sticks that were in system originally.  So are you saying to use only the exact sticks that are ones HP included? (Thus limiting total capacity to 32 GB?)

@wakers1973,

What I am saying is that the Hyper X Fury 3733 MHz RAM sticks may work at 3733 MHz, but like I said, HP PCs are picky when it comes to RAM, even if XMP is accessible through BIOS.

The best thing to do is to purchase the Hyper X Fury from an eCommerce company (Amazon, Newegg, etc.) which has made it easy that if your Omen 45L is not allowing that RAM to run at 3733 MHz, to return it to get your money back.

Btw, 32 GB ( 4 x 8GB) of RAM is hardly a limit for any game I know.  It wouldn't be a particularly worrisome issue whatsoever, IMO.

Kind Regards,
