OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC GT22-2000i (83N30AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Since Intel I9-14900K are in the news lately with voltage issues. I’ve been trying to keep an eye on my system. I have an omen 45L with an I9 14900 K.

my system I believe has been stable, but I’ve been trying to think what I can do to keep it that way until intel’s fix is given to HP and they give us a new bios update.

for the most part, my temps and voltages seem to be good, but I do notice I get into the 1.5 V ranges from time to time with heavy load. Just this night when I started my machine up I started Hwinfo real quick and noticed a 1.53 V spike.

Normally when cpu running without load,  temp and voltages seem to be good.

since I hear 1.5 V or above is not good for CPU this makes me nervous. I would appreciate any advice and what I can do before we get a fix from HP. I tried to turn turbo mode off by adjusting the power settings within windows, but that did not work.

since these machines are locked down, and the bios is locked down, the only thing I can think of to change would be the multipliers within the overclock tab of the omen gaming hub. I talked with support and is unclear whether this would void my warranty or not.

my question to the community is has anyone lowered their CPU by adjusting the overclocked tab within  omen gaming hub for the 14900 K?. Also, would this void the warranty?

is there anything else anyone would recommend that could be done in the interim.

thank you for any thoughts or ideas.

Hi @Doug12445678,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you’re on top of monitoring your system, which is great! The Intel i9-14900K, while a powerful processor, can indeed face issues with voltage spikes, especially under heavy loads. Here are some suggestions to help manage your system until a BIOS update is available.

  • Monitor Voltages and Temperatures: Continue to use tools like HWinfo to keep an eye on your system's voltages and temperatures. If you see voltage spikes regularly, especially beyond 1.5V, it’s a good idea to be cautious.
  • Adjust Power Settings: Since turning off Turbo Mode through Windows settings didn’t work, you might try setting a power limit in the Omen Gaming Hub. This could help manage how much power your CPU uses and potentially reduce voltage spikes.
  • Overclocking Settings: Lowering CPU multipliers or adjusting the overclock settings in the Omen Gaming Hub could help, but be cautious. Reducing multipliers might indeed help lower voltage levels and heat, but it could impact performance.
  • System Stability: If you’re experiencing any instability or crashes, it’s worth considering temporary underclocking or undervolting to ensure system stability until an official fix is available.
  • Cooling: Ensure that your cooling solution is adequate and functioning correctly. Proper cooling can help manage higher temperatures and prevent thermal throttling or damage.
  • Stay Updated: Keep an eye on updates from Intel and HP. They might release BIOS or firmware updates to address these voltage issues, and it’s important to apply these updates as soon as they become available.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your reply. I have two followup questions please.

you mention setting a power limit in the omen gaming hub. How do you do that? The only way I know to effect cpu is the over lock tab.

if I try to lower cpu multiplier from default in the over lock tab of omen gaming hub, would that affect my warranty?

thank you for any info you can provide on this.

Hi @Doug12445678,

Thank you for your response,

Here’s how to manage power limits and the implications of adjusting the CPU multiplier.

Setting a Power Limit in Omen Gaming Hub

  • Open Omen Gaming Hub: Launch the Omen Gaming Hub application on your PC.
  • Navigate to the Performance Tab: Look for the "Performance" tab in the Omen Gaming Hub. This is where you'll find options related to power and performance.
  • Access the Power Management Settings: In the Performance tab, you should see options related to power management, including power limits for the CPU and GPU. Adjust the power limits as needed.
  • Save Changes: After adjusting the power limits, make sure to save the changes.
  • If you don't see the option to set power limits directly, it might be controlled through the overclocking or performance settings, which sometimes combine both aspects.

Adjusting CPU Multiplier and Warranty Concerns

Warranty Implications: Changing the CPU multiplier or engaging in overclocking can indeed affect your warranty. HP's standard warranty typically does not cover damage caused by overclocking or other modifications that deviate from default settings. This is because such changes can lead to increased heat and potential damage.

If you’re considering adjusting these settings, make sure to proceed cautiously and be aware of the potential impacts on your system's stability and warranty coverage.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello, I just bought the 45L gaming desktop with the 14900K and then found out about the overvolt issue with the Intel 13/14 CPUs.

I have not even taken my PC out of the box yet while researching if it's possible to "save the CPU".

If we NEED to undervolt/underclock to save the CPU, wouldn't this be acceptable NOT to void the warranty?

Can we have in-warranty buttons in HP Gaming HUB that are in-spec?

The only other options I see is to wait for a bios microcode update or return the system.

Thanks for any feedback on this.

Spoke to HP Support on phone.

Apparently a BIOS update is planned but no ETA.

Please keep us informed of the release, thanks!

You should return the PC, HP support isn't really helpful. No word on the intel extended warranty support for those processors.
