I've had issues since day one with the lights not turning on on my liquid cooler, but a restart usually fixes the issue.  However, the other day I noticed the top right corner of my liquid cooler's light is now yellow and it seems to spread to encompass the top half of the light while under load.

I've run diagnostics and everything says it checks out, but this one corner stays yellow.  Am I concerned over nothing or is this a sign of problems to come?  I've never had a liquid cooler before so I'm a little out of my wheelhouse and most investigations I've made haven't been referring to this specific issue.

Hi @Shadow_n_Shade,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The yellow light on your liquid cooler, especially if it spreads under load, could be indicative of a few potential issues.

  • Temperature Indicator: Some liquid coolers use RGB lighting to indicate temperature changes. A shift to yellow (or other colors) might signal higher temperatures. Even if diagnostics show no issues, the cooler might be experiencing higher temperatures under load.
  • Firmware or Software Issue: The lighting control software or firmware might be glitching. Ensuring you have the latest updates for your liquid cooler's control software might resolve this.
  • Hardware Issue: There could be an issue with the RGB lighting itself or the cooler's connection to the motherboard. This could be a loose connection or a failing LED.

Here's what you can try:

  • Check Temperatures: Monitor the CPU and GPU temperatures using software like HWMonitor or CoreTemp to ensure the cooler is functioning properly under load.
  • Update Software/Firmware: Ensure your system's BIOS, motherboard drivers, and the cooler's control software are all up to date.
  • Check Connections: Power down your PC and check all connections related to the cooler. Ensure the cooler is properly seated and all cables are securely connected.

While it's good that diagnostics show no issues, it's worth keeping an eye on this behavior to ensure it doesn't lead to more significant problems in the future.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly and sorry it took me so long to reply.  It took me a while to be able to finally sit down and try your suggestions.

As it turns out, after running HWMonitor, it does seem like my CPU is running hotter than it should be hitting 90/91 degrees without even running any serious software (I went through and deleted some programs and it hit 91.  It also hits high 80's just idling).  All my drivers seem up to date and I'd say the lighting is DEFINITELY a gauge of temperature as the top left is now sometimes hitting orange.  So I am assuming my cooler is taking a nose dive?  I've only had this PC for a few years (3-4 if memory serves).  Shouldn't the cooler last longer than that?  Like upwards of 10 years?  Even 6 or 7?

My anti-virus is giving me a clean bill and I am not seeing any executables that are drawing any serious power.
