Hello!
I changed my internet provider around end of December to get way better download and upload. Also got a new router from Vodafone (from Germany). Around that time started experiencing crazy packet loss/ping spikes at times and it got worse with every week. However, it only affects my HP OMEN 25L. Any other devices, Laptops, Mobile Phones etc. have no issues at all at the same time in the same network. So I ruled out a problem from the internet provider's side.
Here are my findings:
- I tried the obvious like restarting router, pc, dis-and reconnecting to the router. Not once did it show improvements.
- I switched the connection to my phones Hotspot. I had perfect test results (I use 'packetlosstest. com'). So I figured it can't be the router because other devices work perfectly fine but it also isn't my PC that's bugging because it works with the Hotspot. The issue must be some sort of communication problem between the router and my PC.
Just so you know what the packet loss tests look like.
- Total packet loss ranges from 0.8% to 85%. Yes I'm not kidding, that is the highest value I got 85%! There also seems to be no tendency of whether it is an upload or download issue. In almost every test it is a combination of both. Very rarely is the a purely upload or download packet loss indicated.
- The spikes come seemingly at random, no time pattern, not if I use a certein software.
- I read that Bluetooth was interfering, so I switched it off: it got instantly better...for 2 hours, then back to the old crap. I looked for Driver updates, everything up to date.
- Two days ago I downloaded the HP Support Assistant and it found old drivers, which it deleted. Surprisingly the connection instantly got perfect again (like with the bluetooth change), but only until today.
- What I didn't do is try LAN connection. However, even if it works and the connection is stable, it is not a viable fix because I can not have 15 metres of LAN cable running through 3 rooms to connect my PC. I will
I really tried everything I could think of and many things from this and other forums, but I am at my wit's end.
The only thing I could think of is buying a new Connection Adapter, changing it and seeing if that does the trick. But logically it shouldn't work, because I can get good connections to other networks like my phone, as mentioned before.
Many thanks in advance for your input.
