HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop PC TG01-2000a (2Z6E2AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I set the computer to sleep when unattended for some time but the screens stay on and the machine itself does not sleep.

  • Hybrid sleep is off.
  • Windows 11 power troubleshooter found nothing.
  • powercfg /lastwake Wake History Count - 0
  • System Power Report shows:

BIOS F.21 10/06/2022
OS BUILD 22621.1.amd64fre.ni_release.220506-1250
MODERN STANDBY ENABLED No - should I enable it if that works for this computer?

In case someone else stumbles on this issue, I asked both Google Bard and ChatGPT what I should check for:

powercfg -requests shows "none" for all items.

One other advice was to give this commend in powershell: Get-CimInstance CIM_LogicalDevice | Where-Object PowerManagementCapabilities -ne $null | Select-Object Name, PowerManagementCapabilities

It returned the printer connected via USB

Name PowerManagementCapabilities
---- ---------------------------
Brother MFC-J6710DW Remote Setup Port (COM3) {1}

Looking at the Device Manager driver for that printer:

"Device Install Requested"
Device USBPRINT\BrotherMFC-J6710DW\9&af51e70&0&USB001 requires further installation.

I'll unplug the printer's USB cable to see if that's it and contact Brother on Monday if so.

Well it was not the printer driver. I disconnected the printer, uninstalled the driver and rebooted. The machine did not sleep.

So I'm going to contact support and hope that what I was told about the utter messed up the expiration of my warranty is true. I was told by two different groups that the change was made but it does not show up on the support page. I have a case# to refer to stating the fix so we'll see.
