Is your PC in warranty?

 

Is your PC, otherwise, doing okay, or are you having any other problems?

 

The power button sends a power on signal to the MB.

 

The power supply then sends the required power to energize: the MB and installed components to perform a POST.

 

You would have to troubleshoot the three components involved (power button, power supply, and the MB) during the PC power on process to find the problem.

 

Sorry, I know of no way to isolate what component is causing the PC to immediately power on when it is connected to AC power.

 

General Troubleshooting Tips:

 

You could try resetting CMOS by removing the CR2032 MB battery when the PC is disconnected from AC power. Let the PC sit for about five minutes.

 

You could also try doing a BIOS update to see if this helps.

 

The Forum would need a HP Model number or Product Number to check for a BIOS update.
