Basically, ever since I bought the computer some major games I play aren’t running optimally. For example on Fortnite on medium settings I’m not even receiving 60 dos most of the time and same problem with Spider-Man. I looked up computers with similar Is there any way to find the problem

Hi @PartyPooper,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
If your OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop PC GT15-0000a (4Q9S1AV) is not running games optimally, there could be several factors affecting performance. Here’s a structured approach to diagnose and resolve these issues:
1. Check System Specifications
Verify Hardware Specs:
- Confirm that your system meets or exceeds the recommended specifications for the games you're playing. Check the specifications for Fortnite and Spider-Man and compare them to your PC's hardware.
Update Drivers:
- Ensure your graphics card drivers are up-to-date. Visit the GPU manufacturer's website (NVIDIA or AMD) for the latest drivers. Outdated drivers can significantly impact gaming performance.
2. Monitor System Performance
Check GPU and CPU Usage:
- Use monitoring tools like MSI Afterburner, HWMonitor, or the built-in Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to check GPU and CPU usage during gameplay. High usage or thermal throttling can indicate performance issues.
Check Temperatures:
- Monitor the temperatures of your CPU and GPU. High temperatures can cause thermal throttling, which affects performance. Ensure that your cooling system is functioning properly and consider improving airflow if necessary.
3. Optimize Game Settings
Adjust In-Game Settings:
- Lower in-game settings to improve performance. Reducing graphics settings, resolution, and turning off high-demand features (like shadows and anti-aliasing) can help achieve better performance.
Update Game:
- Ensure that the games are updated to their latest versions. Game updates often include performance improvements and bug fixes.
4. Check for Background Processes
Close Unnecessary Programs:
- Close any unnecessary background applications that might be consuming CPU, memory, or disk resources. Use Task Manager to identify and end tasks that are not needed while gaming.
Check for Overlays:
- Disable any overlays (e.g., Discord, GeForce Experience) that might be affecting performance.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @PartyPooper,
Please find the remaining steps below.
5. Check Power Settings
Set to High Performance:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options and select High performance. This ensures that your PC is using the maximum power available for gaming.
Check Power Supply:
- Verify that your power supply unit (PSU) is adequate for your hardware. An underpowered PSU can affect performance and stability.
6. Check for Hardware Issues
Inspect RAM:
- Ensure that your RAM is functioning correctly. Run a memory diagnostic tool like Windows Memory Diagnostic to check for any issues.
Check GPU Installation:
- Verify that your GPU is properly seated in the PCIe slot and that power connectors are securely attached.
Run Benchmarks:
- Use benchmarking tools like 3DMark or Unigine Heaven to test your system’s performance against similar systems. This can help identify if your performance is below expectations.
7. Update BIOS and System Software
Check for BIOS Updates:
- Visit the HP support website to check if there are any BIOS updates available for your motherboard. BIOS updates can resolve compatibility and performance issues.
Update System Software:
- Ensure that your operating system and all system software are up-to-date. Sometimes, system updates include performance enhancements.
8. Perform a Clean Boot
- Clean Boot:
- Perform a clean boot to determine if any background services or startup programs are affecting performance. Follow instructions from Microsoft to perform a clean boot.
9. Consider Hardware Upgrades
- Upgrade GPU or RAM:
- If your system is still struggling with performance, consider upgrading your GPU or adding more RAM. Ensure that any upgrades are compatible with your system.
If you have tried all the above steps and the performance issues persist, contact HP Phone Support for further assistance or consider taking the PC to a certified repair center.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
