Hiya, so I recently made the switch from console to pc, finally lol, and got the hp pavilion gaming desktop tg01-2xxx, that has an AMD Ryzen 5 5600G processor and it's performed really well for a $500 desktop, only "upgrade" I've done is I went from 8G to 32G of ram. Now I'm wanting to grab a graphic's card during the holiday sale's but I'm pretty much a laymen when it come's to the inner working's. Would something like a 4060, or amd equivalent, work and if so would I need to update the power supply? Any suggestion's would be very much appreciated!!!

Hi @5mellyCheeze,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Congratulations on making the switch to PC gaming! Your HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-2xxx is a solid starting point, and upgrading your graphics card can significantly enhance your gaming experience. Here's how to approach this upgrade.
Compatibility Check for Graphics Cards
- GeForce RTX 4060 or AMD Equivalent: Both the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 and AMD Radeon RX 7600 are excellent mid-tier options. These cards are relatively power-efficient and great for 1080p or even 1440p gaming.
- Physical Size: Ensure the chosen card fits in the case. The TG01 series has a compact design, so check the card's length, width, and height against the available space in your desktop.
- Power Supply Requirements: Both cards typically require a minimum of a 500W power supply. However, the factory power supply in most TG01 models is only 300W or 400W, meaning an upgrade will be necessary.
Power Supply Upgrade
You’ll need a higher-capacity PSU to power a modern graphics card. Here are key points to consider:
a. Recommended Wattage
- For an RTX 4060 or RX 7600: A 500W-600W PSU is sufficient.
- If you might upgrade to higher-tier GPUs in the future, consider a 650W-750W PSU for future-proofing.
b. PSU Size (Form Factor)
- Most TG01 desktops use an ATX-sized PSU or a smaller SFX PSU, depending on the model. Measure the dimensions of your current PSU to ensure the new one fits.
c. Reliable PSU Brands
Look for 80 Plus Bronze or higher-rated PSUs from reputable brands like:
- Corsair (e.g., CX550M, CX650M)
- EVGA (e.g., 500 BQ, 600 W1)
- Seasonic (e.g., S12III 550)
- Cooler Master (e.g., MWE Bronze 550)
Steps to Upgrade
- Power Supply Installation
- Unplug the old PSU and document how cables are routed.
- Replace with the new PSU and reconnect cables, ensuring all connections are secure.
- Graphics Card Installation
- Insert the graphics card into the PCIe x16 slot.
- Connect the appropriate power cables from the PSU to the GPU (if required).
- Driver Updates
- Download and install the latest drivers for the graphics card from NVIDIA or AMD.
Note:
- Cooling: High-performance GPUs generate heat. Ensure good airflow in your case and consider adding case fans if needed.
- BIOS Updates: Before installing the GPU, check for and install any BIOS updates for your desktop from the HP Support website.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
