HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop PC TG01-1000a (2W848AV)

I am not very savvy on this topic, but going to try my best to explain. Bought my son this HP computer, with the idea that he could upgrade it as he wanted down the road.  He is now wanting to upgrade the processor and we running into issues. It has the Erica 3, SSID 87D6 motherboard, and HP is only listing 3 compatible processors, all of which are no longer available to purchase.  He has tried putting in the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, which in theory should be compatible (at least that is what I am told by my son and people at micro center), but it doesn't seem to be.

Does anyone know of any other processors that are currently available to buy that would be compatible with the Erica 3?  Or are we basically out of luck unless we also swap out the motherboard? OR should the 5 work, and maybe there is something we are missing?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi:

The only processors you can upgrade to are the 3 listed in the specs page below...

If the PC does not have the AMD Ryzen 7 4700G processor, which is the best one you can install, I see several of them for sale on eBay.

They are pretty expensive though.

Thank you, I was hoping maybe the listing for the processor was just not updated. 😞

Thinking it might be better to also swap out the motherboard to one that is compatible with more?

This is turning out to be an expensive learning lesson. . . .

You're very welcome.

Yes, you may want to do that, but I have no idea what other motherboards would be supported in that model series.

Also, you need to buy one that comes with the embedded Windows product key in the BIOS, or you will also need to buy a new Windows license.

You may want to sell or trade in the PC and buy one with the hardware your son would be happy with and would not want to do such extensive upgrades, other than to add more memory,
