OMEN 17.3 inch Gaming Laptop PC 17-ck1000 (509V8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Using my Omen Laptop for an upcoming trip and wanted to make sure everything was up-to-date. After going through the update process, I thought I would double check that all the settings are enabled.

I noticed that resizable bar wasn't enabled despite my GPU (3070Ti) and CPU (i7-12700H) are supportable. The BIOS (just updated to AMI F.18, 15-JAN-24) doesn't seem to have it as an option to enable or disable. I presume the issue is that the HP motherboard doesn't support it, but I certainly hope that isn't the case considering all the other components support it.

I have ensured the feature is not enabled via NVIDIA Control Panel (It doesn't even appear in the system information tab) so I am unsure if there is anything else I can do to try and get resizable bar enabled. While I don't really have any performance issues with the laptop, I know that resizable bar is a great way to get additional performance from your device, so why not try to enable it.

If anyone has a potential fix to this issue (as all the other similar posts I have seen aren't specific to this device) please let me know.

Thanks!

Hi @DJDaDingo

Welcome to the HP Forum.

You have a 12th gen Intel CPU and recent MB. Your system should support Resizable BAR and above 4G decoding.

You also have a 2024 HP BIOS update.

Resizable BAR is a PCIe BIOS option. It would probably be in the Advanced BIOS menu if HP included this in the latest 2024 BIOS update.

I ran some synthetic GPU benchmarks (including the CineBenchR2024 graphics test) with this option on and off on the same PC using an Nvidia 4070. I did not see much improvement using Resizable BAR.

I can't say if the results are statistically significant or maybe the benchmarks didn't leverage Resizable BAR.

So you may not be losing much gaming performance at this time If your PC can't do Resizable BAR.

Thanks for that info! I unfortunately couldn't find the setting in the BIOS. I made sure to check all the advanced options and settings, but couldn't see anything related to Resizable Bar. Perhaps it isn't as important as I anticipated, so might not be a big deal after all, but I am curious as to why this system has all the requirements of Resizable Bar but doesn't have an option to enable it.

Hi, @DJDaDingo

My pleasure.

For some reason, unknown to me, HP have decided to not include this BIOS tweak.

Maybe a future BIOS update will provide this option.

Regards
