Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fb0000 (598U6AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Recently, I purchased an SD Card for my nintendo switch but after realizing I didn't need it for my switch, I decided to insert it into my laptop. However, nothing happens when I insert it. There's no driver, disk management isn't detecting it, it's as if nothing was inserted at all.

Hi @JoopiWoopi,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with your SD card not being detected by your Victus by HP 15.6 Inch Gaming Laptop. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check the SD Card Slot: Ensure that the SD card is inserted correctly into the SD card slot on your laptop. Sometimes, improper insertion can prevent detection.

Restart Your Laptop: Occasionally, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Restart your laptop and check if the SD card is detected afterward.

Update Drivers: Outdated or missing drivers can sometimes cause issues with hardware detection. Go to the HP support website, enter your laptop's model number, and download the latest drivers for the SD card reader or chipset.

Check Device Manager:

  • Right-click on the Start menu and select "Device Manager."
  • Look for any entries related to SD cards, memory card readers, or unknown devices.
  • If you see any warnings (yellow triangle with an exclamation mark), right-click on the device and choose "Update driver" to search for updated drivers.

Enable the SD Card Reader: Sometimes the SD card reader may be disabled in Device Manager. Ensure it is enabled:

  • In Device Manager, find the SD card reader device.
  • Right-click and select "Enable" if it's disabled.

Run Hardware Troubleshooter:

  • Open the Settings app (Windows key + I), then go to "Update & Security" > "Troubleshoot."
  • Run the troubleshooter for hardware and devices. It may detect and fix issues with the SD card reader.

Check Power Management Settings:

  • In Device Manager, right-click on the SD card reader and select "Properties."
  • Go to the "Power Management" tab and make sure the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is unchecked.

Try Another SD Card: If possible, try inserting a different SD card into your laptop to see if the issue is with the card itself or the laptop's SD card reader.

Check BIOS Settings: In some cases, the SD card reader may be disabled in the BIOS settings. Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS (usually by pressing F2, F10, Del, or Esc key during startup). Look for any settings related to SD card reader and ensure it's enabled.

Update BIOS: If none of the above steps work, consider updating your laptop's BIOS to the latest version. Be cautious when updating BIOS and follow the HP instructions carefully.

If after trying these steps the SD card still isn't detected, there may be a hardware issue with the SD card reader itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
