When I turn on my computer, the screen is black with a light blue box in the center. It reads "Secure Boot Violation, Invalid signature detected. Check secure boot policy in setup."

No mouse function, when I hey enter, I can run tests in a dos format. They all run "good" but I cannot get anywhere else. I have turned off and back on, tried hitting F2 repeatedly at power up, it all takes me to the same error.

Any help is appreciated!

Hi @EPtv,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern about  Secure boot violation issue, don’t worry let me help you with this.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • The exact HP model of your computer ?
  • Whether you recently made any changes to the BIOS/UEFI settings or installed new hardware/software.
  • If Windows was updated just before this issue started.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Access BIOS/UEFI Setup
    • Power off your computer completely.
    • Turn it back on and immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
    • From there, press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
    • Check under the Boot Options or Security tab for Secure Boot settings.
  2. Disable Secure Boot Temporarily
    • In BIOS, locate Secure Boot and set it to Disabled.
    • Save changes and restart.
    • If the system boots normally, this confirms the issue is related to Secure Boot policy.
  3. Restore BIOS Defaults
    • In BIOS Setup, look for an option like Restore Defaults or Load Setup Defaults.
    • Apply it, save, and restart. This often clears signature mismatches.
  4. Check Boot Device
  • Ensure your primary hard drive/SSD is listed as the first boot device.
  • If it isn’t, adjust the boot order.

If none of these steps help, we may need to look at whether the boot files are corrupted or if a BIOS update is required.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
