Trying to set up dual monitors on my PC. I was previously using an older Acer monitor connected via VGA to HDMI but recently purchased an Acer ED3 series gaming monitor. I'm trying to set up dual monitors, the HP desktop seems to have 2 HDMI ports, but only one of them is working for the display. I'm unsure if there is a way around this, am I able to set up dual monitors on this machine? Would I need to get a splitter for the HDMI port responsible for the display?

Hi @emmayoung9999,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-1 typically comes with multiple display outputs to support dual monitors. If you are having trouble getting both monitors to work simultaneously, here are some steps you can take.

Check Display Settings:

  • Right-click on the desktop and select "Display Settings."
  • Make sure both monitors are detected.
  • Under the "Multiple displays" dropdown menu, select "Extend these displays."

Inspect HDMI Ports:

  • Ensure that both HDMI ports on your desktop are in working condition.
  • Try switching the HDMI cables between the two ports to see if the issue is with a specific port.

Update Graphics Drivers:

  • Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. Visit the official website of the GPU manufacturer (NVIDIA or AMD) and download the latest drivers.

Monitor Input Source:

  • Confirm that each monitor is set to the correct input source (HDMI).
  • Some monitors have multiple HDMI inputs, so be sure you're connected to the right one.

Use a Different Cable:

  • Test with different HDMI cables to rule out any cable issues.

GPU Limitations:

  • Check the specifications of your GPU. Some GPUs have limitations on the number of simultaneous displays they can support.

Adapter or Splitter:

  • If your GPU has only one HDMI port but supports multiple displays, you can use an HDMI splitter or adapter to split the signal. However, keep in mind that this may duplicate the display rather than extend it. For true dual-monitor functionality, it's recommended to use separate ports.

Check BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • In some cases, accessing the BIOS/UEFI settings and ensuring that the multiple display option is enabled can resolve issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
