I am trying to load the Minecraft Launcher but am getting errors 0x1 and 0xc00005. I have contacted Xbox support and they could not fix it so they told me to see if HP could check my system and drivers. Honestly I have no idea what's wrong and need assistance.

Hi @laylool,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you’re unable to open the Minecraft Launcher and are seeing errors 0x1 and 0xc00005, and you’re concerned this may be related to system or driver issues. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Restart the system and check for pending updates
Restart the PC to clear any stuck processes. After restarting, check Windows Update and install all available updates, including optional driver updates.

Verify Windows system files
System error 0xc00005 is often caused by corrupted Windows files. Run the Windows system file check to scan and repair missing or damaged system components.

Check graphics driver status
Minecraft relies heavily on graphics drivers. Open Device Manager, expand Display adapters, and confirm there are no warning icons. If present, reinstall or update the graphics driver from HP Support Assistant or Device Manager.

Disable third-party antivirus temporarily
Some antivirus or security software blocks the Minecraft Launcher and can trigger error 0x1. Temporarily disable the antivirus, then try launching Minecraft again.

Reset the Microsoft Store cache
The Minecraft Launcher installs through the Microsoft Store. Resetting the Store cache can resolve permission and installation issues that cause launcher errors.

Repair or reset the Minecraft Launcher app
Go to Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps, select Minecraft Launcher, then choose Advanced options. Try Repair first; if that doesn’t work, use Reset and sign in again.

Check Xbox and gaming services
Ensure Xbox Live Auth Manager, Xbox Live Game Save, and Gaming Services are running. These services are required for Minecraft and can cause launch failures if stopped.

Run the launcher as administrator
Right-click the Minecraft Launcher and choose Run as administrator. This helps bypass access violations linked to error 0xc00005.

Create a test Windows user profile
A corrupted user profile can prevent apps from launching. Create a new local Windows account and test the Minecraft Launcher there to isolate profile-related issues.

I hope this helps.

Hello everyone, I’m sharing a possible solution for anyone dealing with Minecraft Launcher errors 0x1 and 0xc00005, especially on HP systems. These errors are usually caused by driver conflicts or corrupted Windows files. Updating your graphics drivers through HP Support Assistant or directly from Intel, NVIDIA, or AMD often fixes the issue, as outdated GPU drivers can stop the launcher from opening. Repairing the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables (2015–2022) is also important, since error 0xc00005 is commonly linked to broken system libraries.

If the launcher still doesn’t work, running a system file check using SFC /scannow can repair damaged Windows files that may be blocking Minecraft. A clean reinstall of the launcher also helps in many cases—removing the old .minecraft folder clears corrupted data that might be causing the crash. Sometimes antivirus software interferes with Minecraft’s runtime, so temporarily disabling it or adding an exclusion can help confirm whether that’s the cause. I know this might sound unrelated, but just like troubleshooting quality issues with Hellstar products, solving this problem often comes down to checking the core components one by one. In most cases, keeping drivers updated, repairing system files, and reinstalling the launcher allows Minecraft to run normally again.

Hi @layloo,

Thank you for reaching out. I understand you’re encountering Minecraft Launcher errors 0x1 and 0xc00005, and Xbox support has already ruled out an account-side issue. These errors are commonly related to Windows system files, graphics drivers, or Microsoft Store components, so we’ll focus on checking and stabilizing those areas.

Please follow the steps below carefully and in order.

Restart the system and complete all Windows updates
Restart the PC to clear background conflicts.
Go to Windows Update and install all updates, including optional driver updates.

Check and repair Windows system files
Error 0xc00005 is often caused by corrupted or missing system files.
Run the Windows System File Checker to scan and repair core components.

Update graphics drivers from HP sources
Open Device Manager and expand Display adapters to check for warning icons.
Update or reinstall the graphics driver using HP Support Assistant or the HP driver page for your model.

Repair Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables
Minecraft depends on Visual C++ runtime libraries to launch correctly.
Repair the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015–2022 Redistributables from Apps > Installed Apps.

Reset Microsoft Store cache
The Minecraft Launcher is installed through the Microsoft Store.
Resetting the Store cache resolves permission and download corruption issues.

Repair or reset the Minecraft Launcher
Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Minecraft Launcher.
Select Advanced options and try Repair first; if needed, use Reset and sign in again.

Verify Xbox and Gaming Services are running
Minecraft requires Gaming Services and Xbox background services.
Confirm Xbox Live Auth Manager, Xbox Live Game Save, and Gaming Services are running.

Temporarily disable third-party antivirus software
Some security software blocks Minecraft’s runtime files.
Disable it briefly and test the launcher to rule out interference.

Run the launcher as administrator
Right-click the Minecraft Launcher and select Run as administrator.
This helps bypass access violations linked to error 0xc00005.

Test with a new Windows user profile
A corrupted user profile can prevent apps from launching correctly.
Create a new local Windows account and test Minecraft there.

I hope this helps.
