OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop PC GT15-1000i (6J775AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Look, everything I connect says it will work faster at USB 3.0 speeds. The only USB port working at USB 3.0 speeds is type C, and only one of those. All my books worked at USB 3.0 speeds on my old Dell XPS studio. This is turning out to be a nightmare.

Hi @reaperangel76,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear about the USB issues you're experiencing with your OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop PC. Let's try to troubleshoot and resolve this issue. Here are some steps you can take.

Check Device Manager

Open Device Manager:

  • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.

Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers:

  • Check for any yellow exclamation marks or red X's which might indicate a driver issue.

Update Drivers:

  • Right-click each USB Root Hub and Generic USB Hub, then select Update driver.

Verify BIOS Settings

Sometimes USB 3.0 ports can be disabled in the BIOS.

  1. Restart your PC and enter the BIOS/UEFI setup (usually by pressing F10, Del, or Esc during startup).
  2. Check USB Configuration:
    • Look for USB settings and ensure that USB 3.0 is enabled.

Install Chipset Drivers

Ensure you have the latest chipset drivers installed for your motherboard.

  1. Visit the OMEN by HP support page:
    • Enter your model number and download the latest chipset drivers.
  2. Install the drivers and restart your computer.

Check Windows Settings

Go to Power Options:

  • Press Win + X, select Power Options, then Additional power settings.

Change advanced power settings:

  • Expand USB settings and set USB selective suspend setting to Disabled.

USB 3.0 Hub or Extension

If you’re using a USB hub or extension, make sure it supports USB 3.0 speeds.

Test with Different Devices

Test the USB 3.0 ports with different USB 3.0 devices to rule out a device-specific issue.

Windows Updates

Make sure your Windows is up to date.

  1. Go to Settings:
    • Press Win + I and select Update & Security.
  2. Check for updates and install any available updates.

Check for Physical Damage

Inspect the USB ports for any physical damage or debris.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be a hardware problem with the motherboard's USB controller.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
