HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop 690-0020na
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, I currently have the GTX 1050 installed on my HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop 690-0020na and would like to know what's the BEST compatible GPU replacement which will fit in the case, considering the 300w PSU.

Current CPU = Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8400 CPU @ 2.80GHz 2.81 GHz

Current RAM = 16gb

I would appreciate any help with this,

Thanks...

Hi @ed2u

Do you have a graphics card upgrade option in mind? Have you been looking at specific graphics cards?

The 310 watt HP power supply limits your graphics card choices. Your case can probably do a dual slot 9 inch to 10 inch graphics card. Best to measure along the PCIe x16 slot to verify this.

I don't know for sure. But I suspect the HP 310 watt power supply does not have the supplemental six/eight pin connector required for higher end graphics cards.

@NonSequitur777 has a very good explanation of GPU upgrade options at this Forum Link. Your PC has a similar case and MB. This limits power supply upgrade paths (400 watt or 500 watt) to HP only power supplies.

This YouTube video lists some graphics cards which should be compatible with your case when upgrading the power supply to a 400 watt part or a 500 watt part.

Regards.

For your HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop 690-0020na with a 300W PSU, you can consider upgrading to a more powerful GPU. Given your current setup, here are some compatible GPU options that should work well:

  1. NVIDIA GTX 1650 Super: This is a decent upgrade from the GTX 1050 and is known for its good performance at 1080p gaming. It also tends to be power-efficient and should work with your 300W PSU.

  1. NVIDIA GTX 1660: The GTX 1660 is another great choice for 1080p gaming and offers better performance than the GTX 1650 Super. It should still be within the power limits of your PSU.

  1. AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT: If you're open to AMD GPUs, the RX 5500 XT is a competitive option in terms of performance and efficiency for your setup.

  1. NVIDIA GTX 1650: If you want a more budget-friendly option while still getting an upgrade, the GTX 1650 is worth considering. It should work well with your PSU and provide a noticeable improvement over the GTX 1050.

Before purchasing any GPU, please ensure that it physically fits in your case, as larger GPUs may not fit. You can measure the space inside your case and check the dimensions of the GPU you're interested in to make sure it will fit comfortably.

Additionally, it's a good idea to check for compatibility with your motherboard and confirm that your PSU can provide the necessary power connectors for the chosen GPU. Upgrading your GPU should enhance your gaming experience, especially with the CPU and RAM you currently have.
