Hello,
My son wanted his graphics card upgraded in his HP pavilion gaming desktop TG01 for Christmas. We purchased a Zotac gaming GeForce RTX 3060 amp but it looks like it needs a power supply. I'm not very technical but had someone else try to install it for us. Will this work in his computer and if so, what else do we need to be able to hook it up? If this will not work, what do we need instead? Any help is greatly appreciated. I now have a pretty upset 13 year old that is desperately wanting to be able to use his new Christmas present.
Thank you,
Casey

The information you provided doesn't indicate a more specific product number, illustrated here, for example:
Please type in system information in your Windows search bar, and left-click on the System Information App.
You should see something like this (using the PC I am working from):
What I need is the information I boxed in blue.

What I mean is this: let's suppose your TG01-xxxx happens to be this specific model: HP Pavilion Gaming - TG01-0023w (6YR56AA), then according to: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-gaming-desktop-pc-tg01-0000a/37874510/model/3793389..., your TG01-xxxx is fitted with an Erica motherboard with SSID: 8643.
Then, according to: https://partsurfer.hp.com/partsurfer?searchtext=6YR56AA, your TG01-xxxx is fitted with a 400-watt power supply with HP p/n: L04618-800 ("Power Supply - GNRC PSU 400W SFF Entl FR"), which, according to: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Knowledge-Base/Power-Supply-Cross-Reference-for-specific-model..., is equipped with one 6+2-PCIe power cable.
Now, upon further research, it looks like a Zotac gaming GeForce RTX 3060 Amp graphics card requires 2 x 8-pin PCIe power cables (scroll down in this link to the ZOTAC GPUs): NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Specs | TechPowerUp GPU Database
However, based on your first post, your TG01-xxxx power supply either doesn't have a 6+2-PCIe power cable, or is one 6+2-PCIe power cable short.
Going back to the aforementioned HP power supply spreadsheet, there is a compatible 500-watt power supply (HP p/n: L05757-800) for the Erica-based TG01-xxxx, but it does not have 2 x 8-pin PCIe power supply cables:
The way I see it -assuming your TG01-xxxx is fitted with the Erica SSID: 8643 motherboard, you have two options:
1.) Purchase the 500-watt (L05757-800) power supply via eBay (they are pricey) AND purchase a 6-pin PCIe to 8-pin power supply adapter cable such as this one: Amazon.com: StarTech.com PCI Express 6 pin to 8 pin Power Adapter Cable - Power cable - 6 pin PCIe p..., in order to take care of the second 8-pin PCIe power cable connection the ZOTAC needs. Normally I would advise against using a 6-pin to 8-pin PCIe power down-throttling cable adapter, but in this case, I don't think the ZOTAC RTX 3060 needs 2 x 150 watt PCIe power cables.
2.) Return the Zotac gaming GeForce RTX 3060 Amp graphics card to get your money back, and instead purchase an RTX 3060 graphics card that requires only one 8-pin PCIe power cable*, such as an HP Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 12GB GDDR6.
* [EDIT:] -assuming your TG01-xxxx is fitted with a 400-watt power supply with HP p/n: L04618-800
Incidentally, I like the HP RTX 3060 graphics card a lot, as I recently purchased one through eBay for my HP ProDesk 600 G3 MT upgrade project: Solved: Upgrading HP ProDesk 600 G3 MT - HP Support Community - 8544105, and it runs very well with a 400-watt power supply: HP ProDesk 600 G3 MT Performance Results - UserBenchmark. If interested, you can purchase an HP RTX 3060 decently priced as seen here: HP Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 for sale | eBay.
I would go for option #2 if you can.
Wishing you a wonderful New Year.

Thank you!
Based on your info, according to: https://partsurfer.hp.com/partsurfer?searchtext=7BB49AV, your TG01 is an HP Pavilion Gaming - TG01-0170m CTO ("Configure-To-Order"), which is either fitted with a 400-watt power supply (HP p/n: L04618-800) or a 310-watt power supply (L64961-800).
The product specs page for your PC isn't much help to determine which of the two power supplies your desktop is equipped with: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-gaming-desktop-pc-tg01-0000i/29014479/model/3073462....
Therefore, please look under the 'hood' of your desktop, so to speak, and tell me what part number/wattage your power supply shows. As you understand, it matters what power supply you got.

All right, here we go:
From non-HP sources as I could not find HP specs for the L63964-002, such as seen here:
Your 310-watt power supply, with HP p/n: L63964-002 is equipped with one 6+2-pin PCIe power cable:
Whereas the Zotac RTX 3060 Amp requires 2 x (6+2)/8-pin PCIe power cables, and a minimum 400-watt power supply.
Please see my previous response what your options are. Either you keep the Zotac card, and you purchase the 500-watt PSU I mentioned, plus one 6-to-8-pin PCIe adapter cable, or you return the Zotac card, get an RTX 3060 that requires only one 8-pin PCIe power cable, and purchase the 400-watt PSU (eBay purchase options: hp L04618-800 for sale | eBay) I mentioned.
These are your options.
