I have a gaming desktop, specifically the HP Pav Gaming Desktop TG01-1602nc PC (299Z0EA) and i want to upgrade the gpu from a 1660 super to a 5050. I'm wondering if there are any issues with what i have in mind.

@Pintr,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Your HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop PC TG01-1602nc (299Z0EA) is fitted with a 400-watt power supply. The GTX 1660 Super has a 125-watt TDP and requires one 8-pin PCIe power cable. The RTX 5050 has an almost identical 130-watt TDP and also requires one 8-pin PCIe power cable. So far, so good.

However, there are a number of HP (Pavilion) PC models which are as of yet incompatible with RTX 50xx cards (or AMD RX 90xx cards for that matter). Unfortunately, that includes your PC. Amongst the nearly 7,000 HP Pavilion PC TG01-1xxx user entries as found here, none show up with an RTX 50xx card. What this means for you in practical terms is to consider an RTX 40xx card, such as the 115-watt TDP RTX 4060.

Kind Regards,
