Omen 870-241 Gaming Desktop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I want to do a SSD upgrade on my HP Omen 870-241 gaming desktop computer because the current SSD is almost out of space (only 256GB). I want to upgrade the SSD with a drive that more storage capacity.

I'm a complete newbie when it comes to this, as I've never replaced a SSD before and want to make sure I buy a SSD that is compatible with my computer.

Does any have any advice on what kind/type of SSD I can buy to replace my current SSD? And possibly some instructions on how to replace the SSD itself without screwing up my computer, since I've never done this before?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Did you know your machine has dual storage with

  • 256 GB 3D TLC Solid State   and
  • 1 TB

Looks like the 256 GB is an M.2 SATA SSD. You can upgrade to 1TB or 2TB M.2 SATA SSD. For example

Yes, I know it has dual storage. I use the 1TB drive for all of my files , music, photos, etc., but all of the programs automatically install on the C:drive which is the SSD with only 256GB. And now I'm getting a warning that it's almost out of space.

So would rather update the SSD to a larger drive instead of having to move everything over to the 1TB which doesn't have much room left on it as well. I'm using an external 4TB storage drive to keep everything backed up. Just would rather update the desktop I have now, since I can't really afford to buy a brand new computer right now.

Thank you for the info and for the suggestion on what to buy to upgrade my SSD. I truly appreciate it!

Got one more question you may be able to help out with, and I apologize if it's a silly question but I'm asking because I truly don't know. So, when I replace the SSD, I know that I will need to back up all of the data on my current SSD before I replace with a larger sized SSD. After I replace the SSD with a new one, is it as simple as copying the data I backed up from the old SSD drive to the new SSD drive, and then everything should remap to it since it's still considered my C:drive and work perfectly after that. Or is there more to it that I'm completely missing?

Again, thanks for your help. Any info you can provide to help me not screw this up would be appreciated. Cheers!
