HP Notebook 15-dy1031wm
Microsoft Windows 11

Updated my laptop to windows 11 25h2. Since then Ive had several issues. The screen would start flickering and then go black when using mouse pad. I couldnt figure out the problem so I did a reinstall of windows 11 using usb. Now laptop will shut off if I plug the charger into it. I dont know what to do.

Greetings @Althea53

Very confusing.

HP is not providing W11 driver support for your PC. You must rely on Windows 11 drivers.

Did you update from W11 24H2 or W11 23H2 to W11 25H2? W11 23H2 to W11 25H2 was a fairly big update. W11 24H2 to W11 25H2 was a very small enablement package.

Sp168695 would be the latest W10 BIOS update for your PC. Updating the BIOS might help, I don't know.

W10 BIOS updates work with W11.

I don't know if your PC has enough juice left to do a BIOS update since you cannot use the charger. I don't know if your PC's battery has enough power left to POST and run Windows.

You're in a tough situation. You need power to do a BIOS update.

Have you tried connecting the charger when Windows is running? Can you get to the BIOS using the charger? Can you charge the battery when the PC is off or sleeping/hibernating?

I can't say if a local PC Tech could fix this problem. The PC needs power to do BIOS updates.

It appears to be a W11 update issue but it could be a coincidental MB power delivery problem. Most Laptops have an EC chip. This chip (over various power rails) directs power to various MB components and other components such as the battery

Or the external power brick or the power jack/MB connection point is causing a short to ground. Try a different power brick if you can find one.

Check eBay using your PC's power brick part number.

Maybe HP Support can assist.

Or you need a local PC tech having the ability to troubleshoot MB: circuitry/power rails and integrated MB components.

Regards
