@Noah051,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Yes, if Steam is reporting Windows 8 even though your PC is running Windows 11, the most common cause is that Steam has been set to run in Compatibility Mode. If so, here's how to fix that:

1. Turn off Compatibility Mode:

  1. Close Steam

  2. Right-click your Steam shortcut or steam.exe
    (usually in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\)

  3. Select Properties

  4. Open the Compatibility tab

  5. Make sure "Run this program in compatibility mode" is unchecked

  6. Click OK and restart Steam

Also check the Steam shortcut in the Start Menu, as it may have compatibility enabled separately.

2. Confirm Windows Reports Correctly:

Press Windows Key + R, type: winver, and confirm that Windows 11 shows in the window that opens.

In most cases, simply disabling Compatibility Mode fixes the issue immediately. If you still have trouble, just let me know whether you upgraded to Windows 11 or performed a clean install, and I can assist further.

Hope this was helpful!

Kind Regards,
