hello!

my problems started yesterday, the top half of my PC no longer works while the bottom (graphics card and possibly the power source) turns on even when the power button isn't pressed and the cord is reconnected,

i've dusted everything, reseated my ram, and even changed the coin battery inside and nothing has changed

Hi @Coincy-Koincy,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • When you say the “top half” no longer works, could you clarify which components you mean? (Motherboard, CPU, fans, USB ports, etc.)
  • Are there any lights, beeps, or error codes coming from the motherboard when you try to power it on?
  • Have you noticed any sounds, or heat before this happened?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you could try:

  1. Power discharge test – Disconnect the PSU completely, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then reconnect and try powering on.
  2. Minimal boot – Remove everything non-essential (GPU, extra RAM sticks, storage drives, USB devices). Try booting with just CPU, one RAM stick, and motherboard powered by PSU.
  3. Check motherboard power connections – Ensure the 24-pin main power and 4/8-pin CPU power connectors are fully seated.

I hope this helps.

thank you for your answer!! i'm sorry that I wasn't clear in my post!

- the motherboard isn't giving me any beeps or flashes of light. none of the fans, USB ports (on the back as well), CPU, and sometimes the power button do not work (when plugging in the power cord, the power source and graphics card will come on even when the power button isn't pressed. they'll turn off when the power cord is removed, regardless how long the power button is held)

- no sounds, heat, or smells came from my computer before it went kaput

thank you for the suggestions as well! I'll try them as soon as I can!
