OMEN 30L Desktop GT13-0000i (236B0AV)
Ubuntu LTS

I switched from Windows 11 to Pop!_OS to run heavy AI models and made several modifications to my PC's cooling system. However, I'm now facing CPU overheating issues, and I'm unable to access fan control in the BIOS. My CPU overclock options are limited to selecting between "Power Save Mode" and "Performance Mode," and I suspect the BIOS is locking these features. I'm looking for a way to adjust the fan speeds for better cooling efficiency.

Hi @moto0103

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an over heating issue, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

Here are the steps for managing CPU overheating and fan control on your Windows-based OMEN 30L Desktop:

1. Update BIOS/Firmware

  • Go to HP's official support page, find your OMEN 30L model, and download the latest BIOS update to unlock better thermal management features.

2. Install HP Omen Command Center

  • Download HP Omen Command Center from HP's website or Microsoft Store.
  • Open the Omen Command Center, go to the “System Vitals” or “Cooling” tab.
  • Adjust fan speeds or set to a cooling profile to improve airflow.

3. Adjust Power Settings (Windows Settings)

Open Power Settings:

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional Power Settings.
  • Select Balanced or Power Saver to prevent the CPU from running at max power all the time.

Advanced Power Settings:

  • Click Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
  • Under Processor power management, set the Maximum processor state to 90-95% to reduce heat during heavy loads.

4. Install and Configure MSI Afterburner (for GPU)

  • Download and install MSI Afterburner.
  • Open MSI Afterburner and adjust the fan curve to increase cooling at higher temperatures.

5. Monitor Temperatures

  • Download HWMonitor or Core Temp to track system temperatures.
  • Keep an eye on the CPU temperature, especially when gaming or running heavy workloads.

6. Clean Air Vents & Improve Case Airflow

  • Clean your PC’s air vents and fans to remove any dust build-up.
  • Ensure that your PC is in a well-ventilated area and there’s enough airflow around the case.
