did a total reset back to factory through the hp recovery tool. everything went smoothly. as i was going through the initial win10 setup i could not establish a wifi connection. i finished setup opting to do so without a connection to internet. i have not been able to connect since the reset. wifi shows that it IS connected securely BUT status for the wifi connection shows that it has no internet connectivity. also please note that i have verified with no less than 1110 devices that there is not a problem with my isp modem or router.

so i tried latest drivers (including update bios firmware, chipset drivers, video card) , several cmd line commands and changing various settings but the only thing that got me back online was a usb wifi adapter. so im going to assume it was a hardware issue.

The latest driver from HP would be out of date.
I recommend you install the final release of the driver directly from the Intel website.
Intel® Wireless Wi-Fi Drivers for Wireless-AC 7265 (Rev. D), 3168 and 3165
I have two PC's with that card installed running W11 and they both work fine on both bands.
Here's the link to the Bluetooth driver as well:
Intel® Wireless Bluetooth® Drivers for Wireless-AC 7265 (Rev. D), 3168 and 3165
If these drivers resolve the problem, you may want to save both of these files somewhere because Intel has a habit of suddenly removing drivers for retired products without notice.
