Hi @epi12,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting. I understand that you're unable to enable Secure Boot on your HP OMEN 30L-0380t CTO. Even though you've attempted multiple methods, the Secure Boot setting either does not stay enabled or fails to activate after saving the BIOS changes.

This behavior is usually caused by one of the following:

  • Windows Fast Startup preventing firmware changes from being fully applied.
  • Missing or corrupted Secure Boot (UEFI) factory keys, which prevent Secure Boot from enabling correctly.
  • BIOS settings not being saved in the required sequence.

The steps below restore the Secure Boot keys and ensure the BIOS can successfully enable Secure Boot.

How to Fix Secure Boot Not Enabling on HP OMEN 30L-0380t CTO

Step 1: Disable Windows Fast Startup

Why this step matters:

Windows Fast Startup uses a hybrid shutdown process that can prevent certain firmware (BIOS/UEFI) changes from being committed correctly.

  1. Press the Windows key, type Control Panel, and press Enter.

  2. Select Power Options.

  3. Click Choose what the power buttons do.

  4. Select Change settings that are currently unavailable (administrator permission required).

  5. Clear the checkbox for Turn on fast startup.

  6. Click Save changes.

Step 2: Restore the HP Factory Secure Boot Keys

Why this step matters:

Secure Boot depends on a set of trusted UEFI security keys. If these keys are missing, altered, or corrupted, Secure Boot may appear available but will not remain enabled.

  1. Shut down the computer completely.

  2. Turn it back on and repeatedly press the Esc key until the Startup Menu appears.

  3. Press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.

  4. Open the Security tab and select Restore Security Settings to Factory Defaults.

  5. When prompted, enter the displayed verification code and press Enter.

  6. Navigate to System Configuration or Boot Options (the menu name may vary depending on the BIOS version).

  7. Select Load HP Factory Default Keys and confirm the action.

  8. Press F10 to Save and Exit.

  9. Allow Windows to boot normally.

Step 3: Enable Secure Boot

Why this step matters:

After restoring the factory keys, Secure Boot should now be able to activate successfully.

  1. Shut down the PC again.

  2. Power it on and repeatedly press Esc to open the Startup Menu.

  3. Press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.

  4. Go to Boot Options or the Security tab (depending on your BIOS version).

  5. Locate Secure Boot and change it to Enabled.

  6. Press F10 to save the changes and restart the computer.

Step 4: Verify That Secure Boot Is Enabled

After Windows starts:

  1. Press Windows + R.

  2. Type msinfo32 and press Enter.

  3. In System Summary, locate Secure Boot State.

If the procedure completed successfully, it should display:

Secure Boot State: On

Expected Outcome:

Once the factory security keys have been restored and Secure Boot has been enabled through the BIOS, the setting should remain enabled after restarting the computer. Windows System Information (msinfo32) should confirm that Secure Boot State is On.

If Secure Boot Still Will Not Enable

If Secure Boot continues to remain disabled after completing all of the steps above, the issue may be related to additional BIOS configuration or firmware settings that require further investigation. In that case, please let us know:

  • Whether Legacy Support (Legacy Boot) is enabled or disabled.

  • Whether Boot Mode is set to UEFI.

  • The current BIOS version installed on your OMEN 30L-0380t CTO.

  • Whether any BIOS changes produce an error message when you attempt to save them.

This information will help determine the next appropriate troubleshooting steps.

I hope this helps resolve the Secure Boot issue on your HP OMEN 30L. Please let us know the results, and we'll be happy to assist you further.
