2 gb Hardware reserved
02-18-2021 08:11 AM

I recently purchased an HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec0xxx with the intention of using its 8gb ram for my work purpose, but after I got it, I realized that the pc is only using 6 gb ram and has reserved 2 gb. i have tried a lot of methods like going to msconfig ect but nothing works. i couldn't even get into the bios settings. i need the fix urgently pls.
Thank you.

You're very welcome.
I forgot what others have indicated when they added a second memory chip.
It may be still close to the 2 GB shortage but maybe a little less.
Something like 13.5 GB usable out of 16.
I am almost 100% certain that adding a second memory chip did not double the memory shortage.

Hi:
Your notebook was designed that way intentionally.
HP released this document a while back, which explains the memory shortage...

This seems to only apply to some models with the AMD Ryzen processors.
Info on Microsoft PlayReady.
