After shuting down from a Linux distribution, HP OMEN 16-ap0038ns does not fully shutdown

Unfortunately fbdev=0 didn't work for me. I tried it your way, tried via grub, asked Grok Heavy for help, but no luck. I give up.

The same problem here. 

@HP please resolve this or I have no choice but to return the device while still in warranty. I am sure that the consumer protection services in Germany will agree with me that supporting a widely accepted OS such as Linux is part of the basic functionalities of a laptop in 2026. This problem shouldn't be so hard to fix.

It affects such a tiny fraction of users that HP simply doesn't care. I will never buy any mainstream brand again. Only no-name custom hardware

Like all the other people here, I have also tried many things, and none of them worked. After spending some hours, I also concluded that it was a BIOS issue. I am really disappointed that HP hasn't resolved this bug yet. I was very excited about my new OMEN 16-ap0175ng, but right now I am seriously considering returning it.

Just to let everyone know. I found a workaround by leaving it in standby instead of shutting my PC down and rebooting it when I have to apply updates. It's not perfect, but at least it's not windows

That’s not a workaround. That’s leaving the  laptop on in standby mode.. not shutting it down…

Please keep the thread on topic. We all get notifications for this and we need to be clear that there is NOT a workaround for this issue.

It seems there isn't one and I really doubt HP will ever fix it.

• The remaining “real” fix is HP BIOS;

What I do to shut down: I press restart from linux and press the power button to shut down while in GRUB - it turns off properly in 1 sec. Let me know if there's a faster way. Thanks)
