Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Yes, I can help with both your questions:

Automatic Shutdown on HP Victus 15 – Likely Cause

Yes, overheating is a strong possibility for the sudden shutdown you experienced while playing FIFA 19. Here's why:

Symptoms match overheating behavior:

  • Sudden shutdown while gaming (a high CPU/GPU load scenario).
  • Initially wouldn’t turn on without a charger (possibly battery protection or thermal shutdown).
  • After cooling down, it worked fine on battery.

Other possible causes (though less likely) include:

  • Battery drain: If your battery was already low, a high-performance load may have triggered shutdown.
  • Power delivery issues from the charger or motherboard.
  • Faulty thermals or dust buildup, especially if it happens frequently.

Suggestions:

  • Monitor temperatures using tools like HWMonitor, Core Temp, or MSI Afterburner.
  • Keep your laptop elevated or use a cooling pad.
  • Ensure vents and fans are clean.
  • Update BIOS and GPU drivers regularly.

Is it Safe to Game With Charger Plugged In?

Yes, it's safe and recommended to game with your charger plugged in for the following reasons:

  • Laptops throttle performance on battery to save power and avoid overheating.
  • Plugging in the charger allows the CPU and GPU to run at full performance.
  • Modern laptops (like your Victus) are designed to bypass the battery during high-performance charging scenarios, which limits wear.

Tips to keep battery health optimal:

  • Use HP Command Center or BIOS settings (if available) to limit charge to 80% if you game plugged in often.
  • Avoid keeping it always at 100% charge when not needed.
  • Ensure proper ventilation during gameplay.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

  1. It’s possible that the issue you experienced with your HP Victus 15 shutting down was related to overheating. When a laptop gets too hot, it may automatically shut down to prevent damage to the internal components. If your laptop wasn’t turning on without the charger plugged in, it might also indicate that the battery was affected by the heat or that it wasn't charged properly at the time. After cooling down, your laptop may have started working again as the system resumed normal operation. It's a good idea to monitor the temperature of your laptop while gaming to ensure it's not overheating.
  2. Yes, you can play games with the charger plugged in, and it's generally safe. Modern laptops are designed to handle being plugged in during use without damaging the battery. However, it’s still important to avoid letting the battery stay fully charged for long periods, as it can degrade battery health over time. To maximize battery life, you can unplug the charger once it reaches around 80-90% if you're not using the laptop for extended periods.
