Dear Team,
I own an OMEN by HP laptop (model 15-dc0xxx) and am experiencing a couple of issues.
Firstly, the battery does not charge even when the laptop is plugged in. I suspect this might be a battery issue. Additionally, I have noticed that the laptop overheats when playing games. I am unsure whether this is due to the age of the laptop or a problem with specific components.
Could you please provide guidance on how to address these issues? If there are any recommendations for replacing parts, I am open to suggestions.
Thank you for your assistance.

Hi @MTSM,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are experiencing battery and overheating issues with your OMEN by HP 15-dc0000 series laptop can be frustrating. Here are some steps and suggestions to address these problems:
Battery Charging Issue
Check the Power Adapter and Port:
- Ensure the power adapter is working correctly. Test it with another compatible laptop if possible.
- Check the power port for any debris or damage.
Battery Health Check:
- Run the HP Hardware Diagnostics (press F2 on startup to access this).
- Check the battery status in BIOS. Restart the laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS, then look for battery information.
Reset the Battery:
- Shut down the laptop, unplug it, and remove the battery if it's removable. Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual power. Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then power on the laptop.
Update BIOS and Drivers:
- Go to the HP Support website and download the latest BIOS and drivers for your model.
Battery Replacement:
- If the battery health is poor or not charging, it might need replacing. Look for a compatible replacement battery from HP or a reputable third-party supplier.
Overheating Issue
Clean the Cooling System:
- Dust accumulation can cause overheating. Use compressed air to clean the vents and fans. If comfortable, open the laptop to clean the interior components.
Check Fan Operation:
- Ensure that the fans are spinning correctly. Use tools like HWMonitor to check the fan speeds and temperatures.
Thermal Paste:
- If the laptop is a few years old, the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU might have dried out. Reapplying thermal paste can improve heat transfer.
Cooling Pad:
- Consider using a cooling pad to provide additional airflow.
Manage Performance Settings:
- Adjust power settings to balance performance and heat. In Windows, go to Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings. Choose a balanced or power saver plan when not gaming.
Software Adjustments:
- Lower in-game settings to reduce the load on the CPU and GPU.
- Ensure that the laptop is on a flat, hard surface to allow proper ventilation.
Replacement Parts and Upgrades
Battery Replacement:
- Search for the exact model battery compatible with the OMEN by HP 15-dc0000 series on the HP parts store or other trusted sources.
Thermal Paste:
- High-quality thermal paste such as Arctic Silver 5 or Noctua NT-H1 can be used.
Cooling Fans:
- If the fans are malfunctioning, replacement fans specific to your model can be found on HP's parts store or third-party websites like eBay or Amazon.
Additional RAM or SSD:
- Upgrading RAM or switching to an SSD (if not already installed) can also help in improving performance and reducing load-related heat.
