So after years of saving money, I finally bought my first gaming laptop. It's a 2022 HP omen 16 with ryzen 7 5800h and 3070. With 230watt charger.
I notice that if I turn on performance mode from omen app, the heat will rise and the fan will go to max speed and so noisy. During that time, the BATTERY WILL DRAIN EVEN THOUGH IT'S PLUGGED IN.
Temp= cpu 90 celcius and gpu 78 celcius.
Then I put it on balance mode and the heat is lower and the fan is not noisy. And guess what... The battery rise and stay at 100 while being plugged. I put the power plan to best performance too and the battery stays at 100 percent.
So the battery only drain (while being plugged) on PERFORMANCE MODE FROM OMEN HUB.
Is there anything wrong my my hp omen? Or is this a common thing.
Some info that might help:
- I experienced this while playing Ghostwire Tokyo and Chivalry 2. Currently I have no other game so I only played these 2. I set most of the graphic setting med to high.
- I don't have ac in my room and the temp outside was 30 celcius.
- I contacted HP service and the staff asked me to do many tests like battery, uefi, charger, and all passed. The staff said it's the first time he hears a laptop draining battery while being plugged.
- I have installed the latest windows, drivers, and bios.
- I contacted the seller and they say I can send the laptop back and their technician will check.
At the same time the staff from HP also ask me to come to HP service center so their technician can check.
My questions:
Should I return the laptop?
I don't wanna lose it so probably I will get the same type but new one, or maybe they will do something to fix my laptop.
Should I bring it to the seller? Or the HP center?
Is it normal?
Is it software or hardware issue?
Is it motherboard? Thermal paste? Or else?
I'm so stressed out by this.
Anybody can help with explanation or suggestion?
