Hi @Puneeth1999,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Gaming Pavilion laptop's battery is draining even when the laptop is shut down, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially fix the problem:
Check for External Devices: Sometimes, external devices like USB drives or peripherals connected to your laptop can draw power even when the laptop is turned off. Make sure to unplug all external devices and see if the issue persists.
Fast Startup Feature: Windows has a "Fast Startup" feature that can cause power to be supplied to some components even when the laptop is shut down. To disable this feature:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
- Click on "Choose what the power buttons do" on the left sidebar.
- Click "Change settings that are currently unavailable."
- Uncheck the box that says "Turn on fast startup (recommended)."
BIOS/UEFI Settings: Access your laptop's BIOS or UEFI settings and check for any options related to power management. There may be settings that control power delivery when the laptop is off.
Windows Updates and Drivers: Ensure that your Windows operating system and all drivers are up to date. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause power management issues.
Battery Report: Generate a battery report to check if there are any unusual power drain patterns. To do this, open a Command Prompt as an administrator and type powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter. This will create a battery report in your user folder that you can review for any irregularities.
Malware and Background Processes: Perform a full system scan for malware or viruses that could be causing excessive power drain. Also, check for any background processes that may be running and consuming power.
Reset Windows: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, you may need to consider resetting Windows to its default settings. Make sure to back up your important data before doing this.
Hardware Issues: If the problem persists after trying all of the above steps, it's possible that there is a hardware issue with your laptop's battery or power management system.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
