When the laptop starts to work on battery for a minute or two immediately goes 6-7%. And then everything is normal. Checked the battery in the program HP writes all good. What could be the problem?

Hi @OnMyDestiny,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
Based on your description, it seems like your Victus by HP 16.1-inch Gaming Laptop PC (16-s0000) experiences a rapid battery drop to 6-7% shortly after starting on battery power, but then functions normally afterward. Since the HP diagnostic tools indicate that the battery health is good, this could be a software-related issue, a problem with battery calibration, or potentially a hardware sensor issue.
- Have there been any recent changes or updates to the system, such as BIOS updates, driver installations, or operating system updates?
- Does this rapid drop in battery percentage happen consistently every time you unplug the laptop, or is it sporadic?
- How is the overall battery life when using the laptop on battery power? Does it seem to last as expected based on your usage?
- Are you using any specific power plans or performance settings that could affect battery performance, such as high-performance modes?
Here are steps to help diagnose and potentially resolve the battery issue:
Step 1: Calibrate the Battery
Discharge the Battery:
- Use your laptop on battery power until it reaches a low level (around 5%) and then shut down the laptop completely.
Fully Charge the Battery:
- Plug in the charger and allow the laptop to fully charge to 100% without interruption.
Check Battery Behavior:
- After charging, unplug the charger and observe if the issue persists. Calibration can sometimes resolve inaccurate battery readings.
- Or Click here to test the battery
Step 2: Check for BIOS and Driver Updates
Update BIOS:
- Go to the HP Support website and check for any available BIOS updates for your specific laptop model. Follow the instructions carefully to update the BIOS.
Update Battery and Power Management Drivers:
- Open Device Manager (press Windows + X and select Device Manager).
- Expand the "Batteries" section.
- Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select "Update driver."
- Also, update drivers for any other power management components listed under "System devices."
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @OnMyDestiny,
Please find the remaining steps below.
Step 3: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
Access HP PC Hardware Diagnostics:
- Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly during startup to access HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
Run Battery Test:
- Run the battery test to see if any additional issues are reported that might not be flagged by regular health checks.
Step 4: Check Power Plan and Battery Saver Settings
Adjust Power Settings:
- Go to Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional power settings.
- Choose Balanced or HP Recommended if you’re using a high-performance plan, as this can cause rapid battery drain.
Disable Battery Saver Temporarily:
- Check if the battery saver mode activates unexpectedly by going to Settings > System > Battery.
- Ensure that battery saver mode is set to activate at the correct percentage.
Step 5: Check for Background Processes
Monitor Task Manager:
- Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check for any unusual background processes that might be using excessive power when you switch to battery mode.
Disable Unnecessary Startup Programs:
- Go to the Startup tab in Task Manager and disable unnecessary programs that could affect power usage on startup.
Step 6: Perform a Battery Report Analysis
- Generate Battery Report:
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type powercfg /batteryreport.
- Navigate to the generated HTML file and review the battery usage patterns and health status for any discrepancies.
Step 7: Check for Potential Hardware Issues
If none of the above steps resolve the problem, it could be a hardware issue with the battery sensors or the motherboard's power management system.
In this case: Given that the diagnostic tools report no issues with the battery itself, the laptop may need to be checked physically if needed.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
