So I'm using an external 3.0 USB hub to hook up a gaming keyboard and mouse.
1. PC won't wake from 3.0 hub/ keyboard mouse (I have to use built in track pad to wake), then 9/10 times reboot to register the external hub again
2. Grayed out option to "wake" from hub in device manager
3. USB suspened, disabled
4. All USB device manager options that I can, have energy saving disabled
5. Tried PowerCFG stuff, not "allowed" to change wake settings (yes I am the admin) - "do not have permission to enable device wake" - Google it, some real B.S.
6. F10 to bios, oh, no settings for USB for power management - Great
7. Yes, tried another hub, same thing
Mostly agrevated that I have no power options for USB in bios, last resort suggestions resolutions seem to be found there, but I don't have any options. I'm not talking boot from USB, this a power sleep wake setting for USB many PC's have in bios.
So what else can I do? The hub stays lit up while the PC is sleeping. When I sit down and wiggle the mouse I hear while staring at a black screen the sounds as if I was unplugging and pluggin in a USB device but the screen stays black until I click the built in key pad. Then windows comes up (getting ready, windows hello) then I'm and up and going but either have to unplug the hub and plug it back in or reboot PC to get the gaming keyboard and mouse to work again.

Hi @halflifecrysis,
Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for the First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I see from the post that you are having issues with Waking up from USB Hub. Don't worry I'll be really glad to help you with this,
After reviewing your post, I see that you are able to wake the computer from sleep normally only issue is with the external HUB, this could be due to hardware functionality is designed such a way that the options are greyed out.
HP PC's uses a customized BIOS setting (Tattooed BIOS) of which some features are locked.
This is done in the best interest of safeguarding the PC for the optimal performance and not to cause any extensive component failure.
I hope this information helps. Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than happy to help.

Great, how do I disable the locked bios on my product? I appreciate HP trying to protect myself from myself, but I'm a semi advanced user and I do need access to something as simple as USB in bios.
Please advise.

Hi @halflifecrysis,
Thank you for replying,
I appreciate your time and efforts,
As I understand you are having issues with the USB HUB not waking from sleep on your HP notebook. I suggest this could be due to hardware compatibility between the HUB and your PC. For work around, I would suggest you try this USB HUB on another computer and check if that works. This will actually help us in identifying the compatibility issue.
Next thing, If you are trying to use the USB HUB only to connect your keyboard and mouse, you could as well connect to the USB ports available on your PC.
Answering to your question, how do I disable the locked Bios, I'm afraid that is not a option as you cannot disable it.
I hope I have answered all your questions, If you need any further assistance. I'll be more than happy to help.
Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,
It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.
If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accepted Solution.
And click on the Purple Thumbs up icon at the bottom of my comment.

Ok, these aren't solutions. This is a $2000 Omen Gaming laptop and I need to be able to use it as I did on the notebook that I replaced (MSI Gaming Laptop).
I have spent money on a powered USB 3.0 hub to see if that would make a difference and it does not. All of these items work just fine and wake my computer from sleep on the other Windows 10 MSI notebook. The problem is me not being able to adjust USB power settings in bios as I can on other machines.
Before I take to Twitter, you are going to say 100% for sure, I cannot access the full bios on an Omen 17T laptop? That I can't have permission to work on my item?

Hello Halflifecrysis,
Looks like no one is available today to finish this, but I will give you my 2 cents.
I assume you have either the 17t wXXX CTO or 17t anXXX CTO?
If so, CTO products dont have the specs available for lookup.
I have an Omen 17 w200 series with a GTX 1070 (no its not cheap, Ill agree).
It can wake if connecting a keyboard or mouse directly to USB, but not using any hub, I have tried several.
Looks like that ability is absolutely not available. If you do find a way to change it, let me know.
So I connect my mouse directly, then use a hub for other drives/keyboard, etc.
As far as HP bios and consumer PC's are concerned, Yes HP has an extremely locked down bios. They have had this policy for as long as I can remember, with the exception of some Enterprise/Business models.
Does HP have a way for you to unlimit the abilities in the bios?
No. If they did, they wouldnt have limited them in the first place.
Why do they do this?
Several reasons for which, only they know. I dont have an official answer, I can only guess.
Will HP ever change this policy, I highly doubt it. I wish I could do more in it too.
Hope that helps a little.

Hi.
Well I got an Aukey 7 port powered hub now, the behavior is better if the sleep time is shorter, it's almost like overnight sleep has a worse affect than say 3 hours asleep. The issue is still persistent, just improved. I find if I strike the laptops keyboard space bar first, it will 50% of time go straight to Windows hello, let me in and light up the keyboard/mouse and I'm good to go. I know if the screen stays black and I hear the connect disconnect USB sounds a few times it's a no go.
I may try this soon. https://www.windows10forums.com/articles/shutdown-after-pc-has-been-idle.41/
I don't know if will "wear out the machine" or be detrimental long term to do it.
Have not been able to pry out of HP how to access bios, I may take to Twitter as it seems to get better results based on another issue I had that HP resolved by going to social media (who'd thunk it).
X2E89AV on box, X2E89ARR on bottom sticker, I think it's a 17T-W000. It has the 1070, but smaller 128 drive with 500 secondary. Over all I'm pleased. There's some bleeding on the screen, but it looks great playing games in 4K.
Since you have a similar model, not to go off subject, yet it's related. You having any issues on bluetooth after sleep? Mine often gives me a code10 on device manager until I reboot and things are peachy. Again, more prominent on longer sleep cycles. It seems like all my major issues have been related to W10 sleep/wake issues.

Model: OMEN - 17t-w100 CTO
Product Number: X2E89AV
I would keep a copy of the drivers saved somewhere just in case you ever have to clean install Windows 10 someday.
I would make sure to create the HP Recovery USB media also, for insurance.
I haven't used Bluetooth on the Omen yet, so I tried my BT keyboard to see what happens.
Yep, it completely turned off Bluetooth and was not available at all after Wake.
The Bluetooth option was missing in the Action Center.
The fix thats working so far:
While you have a bluetooth device connected...
Go to the Search bar and typed services.msc
Go to Bluetooth Support Service, right click on it and choose Properties.
Make Startup type: Automatic > Apply > OK
Same for Bluetooth Handsfree Service.
Go to Device Manager (Search bar type Device Manager)
Dropdown the arrow for Bluetooth and right click on Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R).
Choose Properties, then Power Management tab.
Uncheck the box for Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
OK and exit.
Now when Windows wakes from sleep, tapping any key on the bt keyboard reconnects it.
The Bluetooth option the the Action Center is still there. Tried it 3 times tonight, still working.
Try that before using the Task Scheduler to shut down after idle.
Also, No it wont damage the PC to create a shut down task.
Let me know if that helps.
