My Omen 15 Laptop has been going through this issue where it would black screen but still appear as on(?). The lights on the keyboard still glows and although the screen is black you can still very much see the back light of the screen on and the audio completely cuts off but usb ports still work fine during the black screening - it use to turn the fans off but after updating the geforce driver which was causing me issues by failing to update the fans still run. But there's still no input from the keyboard. And it seems as though the black screening happens more now.

Hi @MissMari
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for explaining everything so clearly—I'm really sorry your OMEN 15 is experiencing these persistent black screen episodes. The fact that the keyboard lights stay on, the screen backlight is active, USB ports remain functional, but audio and keyboard input cut out suggests a GPU-level hang or system freeze, possibly triggered by driver instability, thermal throttling, or firmware conflict.
Let’s walk through a focused recovery process to help stabilize your system:
1. Perform a Clean NVIDIA Driver Installation
Even if you’ve updated the GeForce driver, remnants from failed installs can cause GPU hangs.
- Download Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU): https://www.wagnardsoft.com
- Boot into Safe Mode
- Run DDU to fully remove all NVIDIA drivers
- Restart and install the latest GeForce Game Ready Driver from https://www.nvidia.com
This ensures a clean GPU driver environment and removes any corrupted components.
2. Update BIOS and Embedded Controller
- Visit: OMEN 15 Drivers & BIOS
- Enter your exact OMEN 15 model number (e.g., 15-en0xxx)
- Download and install:
- BIOS update
- HP System Event Utility
- Chipset drivers
These updates help regulate fan behavior, power states, and GPU handoff.
3. Disable Fast Startup and Hybrid Sleep
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup
- Go to Advanced Power Settings > Sleep > Allow hybrid sleep → Set to Off
These settings can cause resume failures and black screen hangs.
4. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Press Esc repeatedly at startup, then choose F2
- Run the System Test and Graphics Test
This helps detect thermal issues, memory faults, or GPU instability.
5. Monitor Thermals and Power Events
- Install OMEN Gaming Hub
- Use Performance Control > System Vitals to monitor:
- GPU and CPU temperatures
- Fan speeds
- Power draw
If the black screen correlates with thermal spikes or power drops, we can adjust performance profiles accordingly.
Let me know what happens after the clean driver install and BIOS update—I’ll guide you further based on that.
You’re doing everything right by staying persistent—I’ll stay with you until it’s resolved.
