Victus Gaming Laptop, this issue happened when I checked for updates on settings and restarted it, it just turned black. I can still move my cursor but its just loading and its all black, only thing that works and can pop up is sticky keys. Cant open task manager. I tried command prompts, uninstalling quality updates, i also tried safe mode (still black screen).

Hi @Yuan5,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Victus Gaming Laptop is stuck on a black screen with a flashing cursor after a Windows update. Let’s go through a few checks.

Before we proceed:
When you enter Safe Mode, do you still see only a black screen with a cursor?

Meanwhile, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Force Windows Recovery Environment

  • Turn the laptop OFF.
  • Turn it ON and as soon as you see the HP logo, hold the Power button to turn it OFF again.
  • Repeat this 3 times.
  • On the fourth startup, Windows should enter Automatic Repair.
  • Select Advanced options.
  • If you reach the recovery menu, continue below.

Step 2: Run Startup Repair

  • Choose Troubleshoot.
  • Select Advanced options.
  • Click Startup Repair.
  • Let the process complete.
  • Restart and check if Windows loads normally.

Step 3: System Restore (If Available)

  • Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options.
  • Select System Restore.
  • Choose a restore point before the update.
  • Let the system restore complete.
  • This reverses recent system changes.

Step 4: Use Command Prompt to Repair System Files

Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.

Type:
sfc /scannow
Press Enter.

After completion, type:
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Restart the laptop.

These commands repair corrupted system files.

I hope this helps.
