Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-d1 (53F50AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, i just bought a new laptop, an HP victus 16 (16-d1000la) with intel i7-12700H and nvidia rtx 3050 and it has been slow, laggy and sluggish from the beginning. I gave it some time to update windows i also update drivers, and bios, and still the same.

Next thing i did was a recovery from the windows recovery environment twice and still the same.

I also tried some games and the experience was awful, very low fps with very bad dips. I had another brand "gaming" laptop, with an i5 11th gen and a gtx 1650 and it was way more fast and performs better in games, despite having lower end hardware, so i don't know what is happening to this victus laptop.

Hi @LuisPerez7,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing performance issues with your new HP Victus 16 laptop. There could be several reasons for the sluggish performance, and I'll provide you with some steps to troubleshoot and improve the situation.

Check for Background Processes:

  • Open the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check for any unnecessary background processes consuming CPU, memory, or disk resources.
  • End tasks of any non-essential programs that might be running.

Performance Power Plan:

  • Ensure that your laptop is set to a high-performance power plan. You can adjust this in the Power Options settings.

Thermal Issues:

  • Overheating can cause performance throttling. Make sure your laptop is on a flat, hard surface to allow proper airflow.
  • Consider using a cooling pad to help dissipate heat.

Graphics Settings:

  • Check the Nvidia Control Panel settings for your GPU. Ensure that it's set to use the Nvidia GPU for games and high-performance applications.

Windows Graphics Settings:

  • Go to "Settings" > "System" > "Display" > "Graphics settings" and ensure that the GPU preference is set to High performance for the applications you use.

BIOS/UEFI Update:

  • Confirm that you have the latest BIOS/UEFI firmware installed. Visit the HP website and check for any available updates specific to your laptop model.

Windows Update:

  • Make sure Windows is completely up to date. Check for and install any pending updates.

Graphics Driver:

  • Ensure you have the latest graphics drivers installed for your Nvidia RTX 3050. Download them directly from the Nvidia website if necessary.

Benchmarking:

  • Run benchmarking tools to check the performance of individual hardware components. This can help identify if any specific component is underperforming.

Reinstalling Windows:

  • If all else fails, you might consider reinstalling Windows from scratch. Make sure to back up important data before doing so.

If, after going through these steps, the performance issues persist, it could indicate a potential hardware problem.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
