Dear HP Support Team,

I am experiencing an issue with the built-in camera on my HP laptop. The camera is not working, and I have already contacted Microsoft Windows Support for troubleshooting.

After checking the issue, Windows Support advised me to contact HP, as they believe the problem may be related to the camera driver or another hardware or manufacturer-specific issue.

Could you please help me diagnose and resolve this problem? If it is a driver issue, I would appreciate guidance on installing the correct driver. If the issue is hardware-related, please let me know the next steps.

Please let me know if you need any additional information, such as my laptop model, serial number, or any error messages.

Thank you for your assistance. I look forward to your response.

Kind regards,

Hi @ARBAZ5,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for reaching out and for providing the detailed information. I understand how important it is to have the built-in camera working, especially after Microsoft Support has already ruled out general Windows troubleshooting and referred you to HP.

To help isolate whether this is a driver, software, or hardware-related issue, please try the following:

1. Check if the camera is enabled in Device Manager

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Cameras (or Imaging devices on some models).
  • Check if the HP camera is listed.
  • If you see a down arrow on the camera, right-click it and select Enable device.
  • If there is a yellow exclamation mark, let us know the exact error shown.

2. Update the camera driver

  • In Device Manager, right-click the camera.
  • Select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for drivers and complete the process if an update is found.
  • Restart the computer after the update.

3. Restart the computer

After completing the above steps, restart the laptop and test the camera again using the Windows Camera app.

If the issue persists, please share the following information so we can assist you further:

  • The exact HP laptop model or product number.
  • Whether the camera appears in Device Manager.
  • Any error message or error code displayed.
  • A screenshot or photo of the error, if possible.

Once we have these details, we'll be happy to help determine whether the issue is related to the camera driver or if additional hardware-specific troubleshooting is required.

I'm an HP Employee.
