No, the HP Pavilion Gaming 15 (specifically your model, ec-2087ax) does not support true bypass charging.

True bypass charging requires hardware switches that completely cut off the battery from the power loop so the laptop runs 100% on the wall plug. The Pavilion Gaming series lacks this hardware feature.

Instead, your laptop uses standard smart battery management:

  • Power Priority: When your battery hits 100%, the charger takes over the main workload of powering your CPU and GPU.
  • Hybrid Drain: Under very heavy gaming loads, the laptop may still pull a small amount of extra power from both the wall and the battery at the same time to maintain performance.
  • Trickle Protection: The system will let the battery naturally drop to around 95% over time before topping it back up to 100% to prevent constant stress.

How to protect your battery while plugged in:

Since you cannot force a bypass mode, you should turn on HP's built-in protection tool:

  1. Turn off your laptop.
  2. Turn it on and repeatedly tap the F10 key to enter the BIOS menu.
  3. Use the arrow keys to find the Configuration or Advanced tab.
  4. Look for Adaptive Battery Optimizer and ensure it is set to Enabled.

This feature monitors your battery temperature and usage patterns to automatically protect its lifespan when you leave the charger plugged in for long gaming sessions!

Kind Regards,
