Hello, I have had an HP Omen 16 (2023) notebook for a few days. Processor AMD 7940HS. GPU 4070. 32GB RAM.
My problem is that the CPU temperature is very high. In idle mode the temperature is never below 50 degrees. Most of the time the idle temperature is between 60-70 degrees. As soon as there is minimal load on the CPU, the temperature immediately shoots up to 100 degrees. The fans are correspondingly loud. What experiences do other users have? What is the temperature like for you?
This is a brand new device. So definitely no dust problem.

Hi @VeBoe,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
High CPU temperatures and loud fan noises can indeed be concerning, especially for a new laptop like the HP Omen 16. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially mitigate the issue.
- Check for Dust Buildup: Dust accumulation within the laptop's cooling system can obstruct airflow and lead to higher temperatures. Use compressed air to carefully clean out any dust from the vents and fans.
- Update Drivers and Firmware: Ensure that all device drivers and firmware for your laptop are up to date. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause inefficiencies in power management and cooling.
- Optimize Power Settings: Check your laptop's power settings to ensure that it's not running in a high-performance mode all the time. You can adjust settings to balance performance and power consumption.
- Use Task Manager to Identify Resource-Hungry Processes: Sometimes, certain programs or background processes can cause the CPU to work harder than necessary, leading to increased temperatures. Use Task Manager to identify any such processes and close them if they are not essential.
- Undervolting (Advanced): Undervolting involves reducing the voltage supplied to the CPU, which can lower temperatures without sacrificing performance significantly.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thanks. But this does not solve my problem. I was espacially interessted in experience of other users of this Omen 16 device.
Right now I am pretty sure that my device has a (hardware) problem. I am already in contact with the support team to replace my omen 16.
