Hi @Amrith_Srinivas,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for sharing the screenshot. Based on what I see, your HP laptop’s camera app is open but showing a black screen, and the camera light blinks every few seconds. This usually means the camera is detected by the system but not initializing properly, possibly due to a driver conflict, privacy setting, or hardware issue.
Let’s walk through the most effective steps to fix this:
1. Check Privacy Settings
- Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
- Make sure Camera access is turned ON.
- Ensure apps like Camera, Discord, and WhatsApp have permission to use the camera.
2. Reinstall the Camera Driver
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Imaging Devices or Cameras.
- Right-click your camera and choose Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop — Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.
If the camera doesn’t reappear, download the latest driver from HP: 👉 Official HP® Drivers and Software Download | HP® Support
3. Check for Conflicting Apps
Sometimes apps like Zoom, Discord, or antivirus software can block camera access:
- Close all background apps.
- Try launching the camera again.
4. BIOS Camera Toggle
Some HP laptops have a BIOS setting to enable/disable the camera:
- Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 to enter BIOS.
- Look for Camera settings under Security or Advanced.
- Make sure it’s enabled.
5. Physical Privacy Shutter
Some HP models have a physical shutter next to the camera lens. Make sure it’s slid open.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
