i have noticed that this laptop has practically vanished from the hp site and certain forums so i havent been able to find an answer, but i wanted to know if it is possible to change my hdd to an ssd, if so what ssd is compatible and if i could also upgrade the RAM and again if so what RAM sticks are compatible with the motherboard. My specs are gtx 1050 2gb, no ssd,1 tb hdd, i5 7300hq, 8gb.
Thanks for the help and replies.

@aman969, welcome to the forum.
I believe that your computer has a M.2 NVMe slot for the SSD; not a SATA SSD. Here is the Maintenance and Service Guide for the computer. On Page 34 it shows a diagram of the section where the M.2 NVMe can be installed:
If you will provide the actual model of your laptop I will tell you which memory is compatible and how much you can install.
Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Thank you for the additional information, @aman969. The actual model is 15-ce004na.
Here is the memory that is used in the laptop. I found this information using HP Partsurfer. I can't find any information on the maximum amount of memory that can be installed, however.

I believe that it would be best if you find a local computer shop that works on HP computers and have them look at it to see if they can install a SSD.

You are welcome!
I can't find anything about the maximum amount of memory that can be installed in the specifications. You can have the Tech at the computer shop check to see how many slots are available. The memory sticks that can be installed are 2 GB, 4 GB and 8 GB. Therefore, there would have to be at least two slots to add 16 GB of memory. If they only add 8 GB to the make the 16 GB's, it should match the existing memory or it may not be compatible. The Tech should know this fact.

so in order for the tech guy to know anything he would have to open my laptop up, but wouldnt that void the warranty? because i got this at john lewis so i have that warranty and the manufacturer warranty but i dont know where to check the manufacturer warranty.

Your system has a 1 TB HDD currently. You can also add an M.2 NVMe SSD (not m.2 sata). The image that @old_geekster posted above shows where the SSD stick is located. Its circled in red.
HP tested the units with up to 16 GB of memory (2x8GB sticks). But they will accept up to 32 GB of memory (2x16GB sticks) DDR4 2400 MHz.
If your goal is to add memory for gaming purposes, you only need to upgrade to a total of 16 GB (2x8).
To add another 8 GB stick with the existing one, the timings need to match each other so it will run without possible issues.
Yes this will affect the warranty. If you return the PC for warranty issues, The new hardware would not be covered and would need to be removed first. Since you are not able to do the work, this would be a really big problem for you. So just know that you are not covered if its upgraded.
The tech will already know what to do if he is experienced with HPs.
